Above is one of the only things to stand out in The Hangover Part II. The three actors? The re-hashed phone conversation? Galfianakis’ head shaved? Nope. My favorite thing about this film was the cinematography and vision from director Todd Phillips (Road Trip). Phillips has always had a good eye for action — shown in the car chase scene — he knows how to tell a story visually, and he can shoot landscapes — shown in the picture above. The testament to how disappointing this film was can be clearly understood with my adoration for the camerawork in a raunchy moronic comedy like this.

Due Date is not a movie I eagerly anticipated. For some reason the commercials did not impress me or cause me to laugh at all; I kept hoping the funny nuggets laid within the completed picture. Seems strange having doubts beforehand with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, and director Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School) heading the project. Maybe being enticed by the star power initially but then let down by the movie is one of the reasons I disliked Due Date so much. It just did not have the laughs one would expect and is not worth your dollar(s) at the movie theater this weekend. Hit the jump to see another Movie Mash video review from yours truly.

We’ve featured Zach Galifianakis’ Funny or Die celebrity interview series, Between Two Ferns, on The Movie Mash before. Well, he’s back with another hilariously awkward episode featuring Bruce Willis, just in time for the release of RED this weekend (which Matt and I just saw. Review coming Friday). Anyway, Willis plays along with Zach’s completely inappropriate questioning, including several comments about Ashton Kutcher (for those who don’t know, Willis used to be married to Demi Moore). Oh, and Zack gets lit on fire. Watch the video after the break.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story was appealing to me for much more than funny man Zach Galifianakis heading the cast. The story is what really intrigued me. A smart teenager named Craig is gifted with many pleasures of the suburban lifestyle but is plagued with a bout of depression brought on by the pressure of being a success in the looming future. Instead of attempting to kill himself like his inner most thoughts and dreams lead on, he checks himself into the psychiatric wing of a hospital. The movie unfolds as Craig meets Galifianakis’ character Bobby and a cast of other patients in the ward whom help Craig realize the person he really wants to be.

While seeing The American the other day (which was not great I might add), I saw a preview for the upcoming movie It’s Kind of a Funny Story. The trailer for the movie is not hot off the press so to speak, but my interest was sparked for this upcoming project by the trailer you can check out after the jump.  So in light of my recent exposure to the newest Focus Features project, I thought a quick overview and the film’s trailer could intrigue readers to see It’s Kind of a Funny Story, hitting theaters this October.

Movie Posters: Saw 3D & Due Date

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Got a couple movie posters hot of the presses for your viewing pleasure. The first is for the upcoming 37th installment of the Saw franchise, charmingly, epically titled Saw 3D, as it will be presented in the third dimension for the first time. I should make a correction from a previous report we posted last month when it was thought that the film was titled Saw 3D: The Traps Come Alive. Apparently, there was a misunderstanding and “the traps come alive” is simply the film’s tagline, as you know, it’s in 3D, so, you know, they COME ALIVE! All I have to saw is pheeew, that was a close one. For a second there I was under the impression that Saw 76 was going to be ridiculous.

Some Quick Tidbits

Zach Galifianakis_Christoph Waltz The Green Hornet

Just want to throw out a quick apology for my sustained hiatus from Movie Mashing this past week. I’ve had some things going on, but I’m back and promise you daily movie analysis from here on out.

● To start off, we’ve got some casting news. The first comes from the set of Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet, which commenced production several weeks ago. I discussed the pre-production development and casting troubles with this film had during Comic-Con in July; Stephen Cho had officially dropped out of the project as Kato, and they were still in discussions with Nicolas Cage to play the main villain, “Chudnofsky.” So needless to say, this project has gotten off to a rocky start.
