UPDATED: And Here We Go… ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Viral Campaign Begins
Posted by: Mike Eisenberg | Comments (0)As the much anticipated trailer and IMAX prologue for The Dark Knight Rises approach, hardcore fans are getting increasingly anxious for anything Batman-related. Well, the appetizers have been served as Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have just launched what Wired and Empire Online believe is the beginning of a viral campaign for the 2012 film.
This is such a creative and innovative way to market a movie. Over the past week, the marketing peeps for the upcoming demonic possession horror flick, The Last Exorcism, have been using Chatroulette to scare the bejeezus out of unsuspecting victims to promote the film. Chatroulette is, of course, the video chat website that randomly connects you to people from all over the world. Well, Lionsgate hired an actress, pre-recorded what looks like a live chat and inserted their clip into the Chatroulette queue. Basically, a very attractive young girl flirts with the camera and teases that she’s going to take her top off; getting the tools & d-bags hoping to see hot naked chicks, super excited. Then, her eyes role back into her skull, turn blood-shot and her head contorts and snaps like Linda Blair did in the The Exorcist. After the horror, it flashes the film’s official website on screen: TheLastExorcism.com. It’s just awesome.
VIDEO: Viral Marketing for Let Me In Sends The Movie Mash an Interesting Package
Posted by: Barrett Goetz | Comments (4)This is the first thing a studio has mailed out to The Movie Mash as a part of a viral marketing campaign for an upcoming movie, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s for the film Let Me In, the vampire-thriller directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and starring Chloe Mortez (“Hit Girl” from Kick-Ass). Let Me In is a an American re-adaptation of the original Swedish film titled Let the Right One In, based on the novel of the same title. Interestingly, the second movie review I’ve ever written was for Let The Right One In, back in March of 2009, which you can read HERE. The package I received in the mail is pretty cool, and I recorded a short video about it for you viewing pleasure.
Teaser Trailer for J.J. Abram’s Secret Alien Project, Super 8, Hits the Web

“It” begins. Back in 2007, the world witnessed the first successful online viral movie marketing campaign, in the form of the J.J. Abrams-produced monster movie, Cloverfield. The marketing campaign for that film was ultra-secretive, hoping to entice movie-goers through the itch of “having to know.” Well, he’s back, in the form of a new secret alien project, being produced by Steven Spielberg, titled Super 8. Rumblings of this mysterious project have been making the internet rounds recently, some saying that it was ultimately going to end up being a sequel to Cloverfield; until Abrams flat-out said last Thursday that Super 8 “has nothing to do” with Cloverfield. So that’s settled. What isn’t settled, is what the film will ultimately be about. Although this past weekend, we were given our first glimpse of Super 8, in the form of a teaser trailer that ran before prints of Iron Man 2. That teaser is now online, in glorious HD, and is available for you to watch after the break.
As the June 18th Toy Story 3 release date nears, fans of all ages are getting doses of more and more Pixar content. For months now, Slashfilm has been writing pieces that introduce the new characters from the third installment, so viewers will know the new toys in the story, even before seeing the movie. Many big name films are releasing specific online content paired with viral campaigns (i.e. Inception) to further promote their movies. Ah, the beauty of the internet.
FINALLY! So after weeks, nay, months of nothing-zip-NADA, the online viral marketing for Christopher Nolan’s Inception is finally picking up speed. A couple weeks ago, Nolan screened a few minutes of exclusive footage to cinema exhibitors at ShoWest in Las Vegas. This past weekend on Saturday, he made a surprise appearance at WonderCon in San Fransisco (basically Diet Comic-Con), and screened the same footage at ShoWest. But this time, Warner Bros. left the fans and journalists in attendance with some nifty-gifties that directly link to the new viral campaign.
F#cking Hilarious! Funny People Viral Continues With Raaaaaaaandy!

The letters at the top right of the image above is an acronym and will make you pee your pants when you discover it’s meaning in Part 2 of “Raaaaaaaandy!” Nearly a couple months ago, I posted some viral videos that had been put online to promote Judd Apatow’s Funny People, featuring some of the characters in the film. It featured Jason Schwartzman’s character Mark, who was profiled in a mockumentary-style interview series of videos. Funny People of course, is about George Simmons (Adam Sandler), a very successful stand up comedian who learns that he has an untreatable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira ( Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One night, these two perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. George hires Ira to be his semi-personal assistant as well as his friend.
