50/50 just edges out Warrior as my favorite film of 2011; both reviews coming soon. It’s an utterly fantastic comedy-drama with a phenemonal script, great performances and just oozes with heart, optimism and charm. So this video of  stars Joseph Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogen and writer Will Eisner (whom this true story is based on), chatting about the real-life events and how it inspired the film, is just a treat to watch. Check it out after the break.

I have not see The Tree of Life yet. I know, I know. It’s only playing at the Lagoon theater in Uptown here in good ‘ol Minneapolis. Rest assured, I AM GOING to see this film. While it’s not sitting at a staggering 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is resting comfortably with an impressive 87% fresh rating. It won top prize at Cannes. And from the footage I’ve seen and reviews I’ve read, it is quite the visually poetic film that will either make you change the way you look at  movies, or turn your head up in cynicism at the pretention everyone seems to be gushing about. Probably the two best directors working today, Christopher Nolan and David Fincher, feel the former is true, and sat down to discuss their love and admiration for The Tree of Life, and more specifically, it’s director Terrance Malick. It’s always awesome to hear masters of craft discuss the work of those who inspire them. Check it out after the break.

The release date of J.J. Abram and Steven Spielberg’s secretive alien invasion flick, Super 8, is fast approaching – and with it is coming a slew of clips from the film. A 2nd 35-second clip has made its way online to wet our appetites just a little bit more. It’s nothing too revealing; but it does feature the powerful strength on display of said extra terrestraial, as well as the onslaught of explosions and fireballs that will surely be peppered throughout the film. Check out the clip after the break.

It’s gone on record hundreds of times since I started this blog that Christopher Nolan is hands down my favorite filmmaker. But coming in a close second is the great David Fincher. Yes, his newest brilliant film, The Social Network, is a universally acclaimed Oscar contender. But I fell in love with Fincher’s unique and mesmerizing visual style way back in 1995 with Se7en. He then went on to make some of my favorite films, all of which I own: The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So I found this compilation tribute video, created by the folks at JoBlo titled The Art of David Fincher, to be particularly awesome. Check out the video after the break.

Every time a new nugget of information for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits the web, I am all over it like Chris Brown’s hands on Rhianna’s face. Too soon? Warner Brothers just released a behind-the-scenes featurette for the final two Potter films that are both dropping within the next 365 days. This two-minute video contains some new clips never seen by Potter fans, but most of the footage has already been shown in the other trailers. It’s still friggin sweet.

This is the first thing a studio has mailed out to The Movie Mash as a part of a viral marketing campaign for an upcoming movie, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s for the film Let Me In, the vampire-thriller directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and starring Chloe Mortez (“Hit Girl” from Kick-Ass). Let Me In is a an American re-adaptation of the original Swedish film titled Let the Right One In, based on the novel of the same title. Interestingly, the second movie review I’ve ever written was for Let The Right One In, back in March of 2009, which you can read HERE. The package I received in the mail is pretty cool, and I recorded a short video about it for you viewing pleasure.

With the release of The Last Airbender just days away now, the $130 million marketing campaign is obviously in full force. If any readers have been watching the World Cup, The Last Airbender name is plastered all over the screen during commercial breaks, post game coverage, and “Air Bending Goals of the Day, presented by The Last Airbender.  Without being able to escape the grasp of this huge blockbuster’s marketing, people across the country like myself are made to wonder if the overall quality of the movie will match its amazing visuals. This film is led by the on and off M. Night Shyamalan, who has been off quite a bit lately (The Happening, The Village, Lady in the Water). Considering Shyamalan’s history, he can either help a movie kill at the box office or kill a movie entirely… especially with the endings.

Last night lucky viewers of NBC shows were treated to a two-minute “Character Featurette” of Inception that breaks down each player of the film’s dream-heist squad. That featurette was released online today on MSN, and it’s absolutely incredible! You may remember a few weeks ago when we posted the awesome character posters for each actor in the film, featuring: Leonardo DiCaprio as “The Extractor,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt as “The Point Man,” Ellen Page as “The Architect,” Marion Cottilard as “The Shade,” Tom Hardy as “The Forger,” and Cillian Murphy as “The Mark.” The featurette includes A LOT of breathtaking new footage and seems an attempt to provide viewers with a better understanding of the film’s cerebral plot.

A new Batman fan film has just hit the web that any caped crusader fan could enjoy. The project is no Nolan masterpiece of course, but it also is not low class by many standards. The short 30-minute feature written and directed by Aaron Schoenke was created on a budget of only $27,000. While that is not a lot of dough against Hollywood standards, this project shows quite a bit can be done with that sum of money.
