Upon hearing word about this film I was skeptical — how would a movie like this turn out funny or see any box office success? The idea is not that close to the idea of The Beaver, but it’s not that far off either (a main character strikes up a buddy-buddy friendship with a stuffed animal/puppet). In the one that stars Mel Gibson the concept was much more serious, as Gibson was slowly losing his mind talking to a beaver puppet. In Ted, the stuff bear voiced by Seth MacFarlane was somehow granted actual life. The bear walks, talks, drinks, smokes weed, and even has a job. The bear is a part of society and no one seems to mind — a movie like this could either be really funny, or extremely stupid. We’ll have to wait until July to find out.

While I don’t like Mark Duplass as a director, I do like when he is in front of the camera playing Pete on The League. His latest film Safety Not Guaranteed has him in front of the camera again, this time as an aspiring time traveler. He stars alongside the always funny Aubrey Plaza and Jake M. Johnson (New Girl). Hit the jump to check out what looks to be an indie melodrama worth your time.

It’s no secret I adore Jennifer Lawrence. She’s wildly talented (she’s the second youngest woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in her role from Winter’s Bone), she picks worthy projects both indie and blockbuster (see Like Crazy, X-Men: First Class, and The Hunger Games), and as your eyes so easily tell you, she is drop dead gorgeous. While horror really isn’t my thing, I’d spend two hours in a dark theater clutching the arm rests in fright to admire Jennifer Lawrence.

The Farrelly Brothers have not made a relevant film in a long time; Hall Pass, Heartbreak Kid, Fever Pitch and Shallow Hal to name a few of their recent flops. Those films with the exception of Hall Pass have had very successful runs on late night cable TV. But whenever I see The Farrelly Brothers on the title screen, I always have an expectation for the film to be somewhat funny. Needless to say, that hasn’t happened for a long time. It looks like that streak is going to continue when their version of The Three Stooges comes out on April 13th.

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows came out last night. As I was about to watch it, I was not excited at all for another Johnny Depp, Helena B. Carter, Tim Burton flick. But I watched anyways because I wanted to get a feel for this movie and gauge if it was going to suck. I was pleasantly surprised. It looks very good.

Ah, Men in Black, a franchise that is giving us more of something we don’t really want or need, a third film in this franchise. This doesn’t mean I won’t see it, but I definitely am not itching to do so, nor do I need to see it. Mike posted the tease for this film a few months back, and now we are being treated to a full length trailer which shows more about the film. Little is shown about the foe in this third chapter, but the typical MIB shenanigans are on full display in this pitch — the world is about to end, and the only defense from total destruction are those men hidden in the fabric of secret alien government operations. Can’t say I’m ecstatic or even really that interested in this film, but, it’s worth talking about.

It was less than a month ago that we got a teaser Super Bowl spot for The Avengers. While that was just a small taste of the upcoming film, this second trailer is like a big spoonful. This time around we get to see the team of alpha males bicker a bit,  and some of the elaborate action pieces — because of this, some plot lines are spoiled. If you don’t want to have too much spoiled for yourself and want everything to be fresh when you see The Avengers after May 4th, skip this trailer.

There’s only one way to kill a man and that’s to brutally Dance Dance Revolution him to death. Dance Dance is one of the most iconic video games ever, one which I blow at. With it’s widespread success, there had to be a way to make it the center of it’s own motion picture. That’s where The FP comes in. A story about two rival gangs that fight over what looks to be a really ghetto piece of property called Frazier Park. Instead of fighting like men and whipping out guns, knives, tritons, and lightsabers, these full-on white gangsta’s decide to settle their hatred via DDR TO THE DEATH!
