Matt’s Review: It’s Safe To Say That ‘Safe House’ Isn’t Worth Theater Dollars
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: D+
I can probably guess that many will not dislike Safe House as much as I did. The audience surrounding me at the midnight showing was cheering the film in appreciation and shrieking during some of the bloody battles. About 15 minutes in, I could already tell Safe House was going to be a run-of-the mill early 2012 release no one would remember — except maybe for its inadequacy. Even the greatness of Denzel could not keep this sinking ship afloat.
It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Trailer Trash Mash, and in light of me slacking on getting individual posts regarding these trailers, I’ll just throw them all into one. After the jump you can check out trailers for Safe House which stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, 21 Jump Street starring a skinny Jonah Hill and a kind of funny Channing Tatum, Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, and Goon with Seann William Scott. Whew, that was a lot
Matt’s Review: ‘Green Lantern’ Caters To Its Target Audience, But That’s Not Bad Thing
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B+
Green Lantern was a movie I expected to disappoint. It surrounds a hero I know very little about. Ryan Reynolds is not my favorite actor — I don’t love Blake Lively either. The film was also converted to 3D in post production, which usually yields poor results. The initial previews left me skeptical as I could not embrace the campy full CGI suit Reynolds adorns after using his power ring. On top of my own suspicions, the film currently has a 23% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. However, don’t be swayed by the harsh critics, because I am here to say most comic fans and and any Sci-Fi nerd should feel right at home watching Green Lantern.
3D ‘Green Lantern’ Trailer
Posted by: | CommentsOk, obviously none of us can really watch this trailer in 3D right now since we have neither the glasses nor the technology on our computers to watch the trailer in the third dimension. The trailer is meant to be attached to the 3D movies hitting the theaters so viewers can watch the upcoming trailers in 3D also. Despite the 3D not being present for your “enjoyment pleasure”, I decided to pass this nugget along because it is a trailer unique to the previous two. This trailer provides those who know very little about Hal Jordan and Green Lantern some background to the protective heroes who watch over the galaxy, the lanterns. Watch the trailer after the jump.
Trailer Trash Mash: Storybuilding Edition ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Real Steel’
Posted by: | CommentsUp on the menu today for this edition of the Trailer Trash Mash are two second trailers from upcoming Summer blockbuster films. Green Lantern and Real Steel both look like they are sizing up to be not only marketable movies, but good ones. Both these previews made me exponentially more excited to see both films. Both trailers feature an emphasis on story, and less like their predecessors which were action heavy. Hit the jump to check them out.
First Footage of ‘Green Lantern’
Posted by: | CommentsThe progress of Green Lantern has been kept under the radar throughout the film’s production. We have barely got a glimpse at Green Lantern himself besides a magazine layout in Entertainment Weekly. Word is the first trailer for Green Lantern will be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows next week. To give fans a brief look at the superhero before November 19th, Entertainment Tonight has a sneak peek at the first video of Ryan Reynolds transforming into Green Lantern and using the power ring. Hit the jump to see the first look of Green Lantern in action.
At 56 years old, Denzel Washington is still one of the most sought after actors to work with in Hollywood. Deadline is reporting today that a massive who’s who list of the top young actors in in the game are hoping to star along side Denzel in the CIA-thriller Safe House, written by David Guggenheim. The list includes: Ryan Reynolds, Shia LaBeouf, Taylor Kitsch, Chris Pine, Sam Worthington, Garrett Hedlund, Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth and Jake Gyllenhaal. Jeez Louise!
‘Green Lantern 2’ and ‘3’ Get Green-light, WB Hires Screenwriter
Posted by: | CommentsWow. Warner Bros. must have a ridiculous amount of confidence in their Green Lantern film, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds, currently filming in New Orleans. The film doesn’t come out until next June, but Variety is reporting (via ScreenRant) that WB has hired Michael Goldenberg to pen the script for Green Lantern 2. This comes just a few days after it was reported that Green Lantern 2 would start filming before the first film comes out, with the possibility of a third film being shot back-to-back with the second to complete a trilogy. Jeez, I gotta catch my breath. Which means Green Lantern 2 would be released in Christmas of 2012, and Green Lantern 3 the summer of 2013, similar to how WB has released chapters of the Harry Potter franchise. All I can say is, EFF YEAH!
McG to Possibly Direct Comic-Book Adaptation of R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department)
Posted by: | CommentsThis sounds like it could be awesome. According to Pajiba (via Collider) Terminator Salvation director McG, is rumored to be “circling” the director’s chair for the comic-book movie adaption of R.I.P.D., or Rest in Peace Department starring Ryan Reynolds. What the hell is R.I.P.D. about? Glad you asked, because it sounds awesome. It’s about ”two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years who work on the Rest in Peace department – which is the police department of the dead.” How cool does that sound?
New “Full-Length” Trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ Buried
Posted by: | CommentsBack in April, Lionsgate released the teaser trailer for Buried, the upcoming Ryan Reynold one-man thriller which entirely consists of Reynolds inside a coffin. The teaser, as you would expect, showed absolutely no footage, only audio, and was just over one minute long. Today, Yahoo! has the exclusive look at the “full-length” trailer for Buried; I have “full-length” in quotations because the runtime for the trailer is just 1:23. That’s not a bad thing, as this movie surely hinges on secrecey, but just something to be noted. It’s a cool first peep, making me all the more excited for this film.
