Yes, Arrested Development fans, you’ve heard me right. The long speculated return of Arrested Development on the big screen will now happen. This is great news for those like me who have been waiting so long for this rumor to finally pan out — for so long many of us thought it would never happen. GRADE: B+

This is a movie probably unlike any other you have seen in your lifetime. It is a combination of many forms of entertainment in our culture, seamlessly combining film, music, video games, and comic book elements. This was my second most anticipated late summer movie (after Inception), and it measured up to all my expectations. Not expecting a high dose of comedy, I was surprised to laugh as much as I did throughout this movie. Many of the laughs weren’t blatant like the Will Ferrell brand, but a quieter and less dramatic form of comedy. This contribution to the overall product was something that I thought boosted this film’s already high value.

PAPER HEART

Paper Heart (C+)

To be honest, this film was not on the top of my “movies to see” list, but after winning sneak peak tix from the Minneapolis based publication, Vitamin, I decided to check it out. It opens in select theaters (including the Landmark Lagoon in Uptown) on Friday, August 7th. Otherwise, I expect it will be making its way elsewhere August 14th. All I really knew about this film was that it was a semi real “mockumentary” staring that stoner girl from Knocked Up, Charlyne Yi, and the always enjoyable Michael Cera (Super Bad, Juno). I wasn’t sure if this movie was going to actually be an documentary about love, and Charlyne’s quest to find it, as the previews proclaim. After seeing it, I’m still unclear.
