Mike’s Review: ‘We Bought A Zoo’ Lets Loose The Inspiration
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B+
Cameron Crowe brought all his regular ingredients to the table with his latest film, We Bought A Zoo. It’s got the traditional Crowe inspirational dialogue, excellent music choices and commercial appeal of most of his work. Put simply, it’s a movie that seems impossible to hate – although cynics will still find a reason. The theaters are full of options this holiday season, but We Bought A Zoo is about as close to a guarantee family-friendly experience as you can get.
The Movie Mash 2011 Holiday Movie Guide
Posted by: | CommentsHollywood is known for bunching releases in certain time frames that fit their strategy. January and February are the dumping grounds for forgetful flops. June through August are the glory days for blockbusters full of explosions and scantily clad ladies. September through December are the months where drama reigns king. But at the end of December, as Christmas rolls around, we get an onslaught of choices that are both entertaining and award-worthy. So, how do you pick the right one for you? Our 2011 Holiday Movie Guide, of course!
There are nine high-profile movies hitting theaters between December 16th and December 30th, along with four highly-touted limited release art films. We are aware some movies will still be in theaters from late November, but this guide is focused on those releasing in the last two weeks of December. In order to make this a little more focused, we’ll give you some sub-categories for exactly what we think each type of movie lover might want.
Matt’s Review: ‘Contagion’ is Far From Infectious
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: C+
While I already know I am in the minority in terms of my stand point on this film, I don’t care. I did not think it was a thriller or horror flick laced with tension and suspense like some critics are labeling the Steven Soderbergh product. Contagion is a film that documents a epidemic that kills millions like a in-depth-behind-the-scenes news cast, not a movie. After the jump you can check out the video I cooked up as a review, and also my thoughts with spoilers for those who have seen Contagion.
Matt’s Review: ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ Could Have Been More, But Was Worth Watching
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B-
This film stars two of my absolute favorite actors of all-time in Matt Damon and the gorgeous Emily Blunt. The fact they are paired together as an inseparable couple made this one of my must-see movies in March. It definitely was highly anticipated for more reasons other than the teaming of these Hollywood elite. The fight for romance is something that always intrigues me, especially against a hallowed group of men in fedora hats protecting destiny and adjusting an individual when they “get off course.”
‘The Adjustment Bureau’ Featurette
Posted by: | CommentsThe details surrounding The Adjustment Bureau to this point have been gloomy for the most part. The synopsis for the film isn’t very telling and the first trailer isn’t much of a help either. But now Moviefone has a featurette providing an understandable breakdown of the film along with interviews with the cast and director. Personally, this film looks like it has a ton of potential. Matt Damon and one of my favorite actresses, Emily Blunt, team up as lovers fighting fate to be together? Count me in. Considering that both Damon and Blunt are very careful about which movies they are part of, that must mean the script behind The Adjustment Bureau must be an impressive piece of work. Hit the jump to see the featurette that will leave you anticipating the March 4th release date.
Matt’s Awards Season Review: ‘True Grit’ Was a Poorly Written Bore
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: C-
Upon seeing the previews, True Grit looks like a marquee product coming down the stretch working towards “Awards Season.” The Coen Brothers + Jeff Bridges + Matt Damon + Josh Brolin + an inspiring performance by the inexperienced but talented actress named Hailee Steinfeld = success… right? Apparently not. I really did not enjoy much of this movie. The most surprising thing to me are the overwhelming positive reviews for this film on Rotten Tomatoes (it’s certified fresh!) With how much disappointment I felt after seeing True Grit, I cannot believe this film was not at least hated by some.
First Official Trailer for The Adjustment Bureau
Posted by: | CommentsYahoo! has just released the first official trailer for The Adjustment Bureau, the new sci-fi-esque thriller starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. The film is written and directed by The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Twelve screenwriter George Nolfi, loosely based on the Philip K. Dick novel Adjustment Team. If you don’t know who PKD is yet, then get accustomed, because he’s brought us some of the greatest science fiction books-turned movies in some time, including: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Screamers, Minority Report and A Scanner Darkly,
Damon and Greengrass Done With Jason Bourne, But A Prequel May Happen Without Them
Posted by: | CommentsThe last we heard on the development on the potential fourth installment in the Jason Bourne franchise was back in August of last year. It was reported that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon had indeed signed on for Bourne 4, but troubles with the script were causing a lot of headaches at Universal, so the project went stagnant. Now it appears as though we have some official word directly from the mouths of Greengrass and Damon, both of whom are declaring that they’re done with Jason Bourne.

Invictus (B)
This is the remarkable true story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman). After spending 27 years in a prison for being wrongfully convicted by South African courts of sabotage and other anti-apartheid acts Mandela was finally released in 1990. Upon being released he continued his work in the anti-apartheid movement and even went on to become the first black President of South Africa. During his time as President, Mandela worked to unite the country because there was still a divide between the whites and blacks. He believed strongly that rallying the country behind the rugby team in the 1995 World Cup would help band together the splintered ethnic groups under one united banner.
‘Bourne 4′ Is On The Way, But Script Troubles Are Not Helping

Ok, so that’s not an actual title. It would be pretty funny if it was though, as it does shed some light on the potential future adventures of the most badass super spy in movies. After the impressive debut of The Bourne Identity in 2002 and the explosive success of The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, Matt Damon and Supremacy/Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass decided to return one more time for a third and final installment of the Bourne series. However as they say, money talks. After The Bourne Ultimatum raked in an August record-breaking $227 million domestically, won three academy awards and across-the-board critical acclaim in 2007, Damon, Greengrass and Universal decided that only three Bourne adventures was simply not enough.
