Archive for Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I’ve been preaching for over two years that JGL (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is on the verge of becoming a major superstar. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in 500 Days of Summer and landed a major role in Christopher Nolan’s Inception in 2010. He’s getting a lot of positive buzz for his forthcoming performance in 50/50, opening soon, and he’s currently filming The Dark Knight Rises. Dude’s on a roll. On top of all that, his next NYC bike messenger chase-thriller, Premium Rush, opens next year and the film’s first trailer has just dropped. And it looks pretty dece.

50/50 just edges out Warrior as my favorite film of 2011; both reviews coming soon. It’s an utterly fantastic comedy-drama with a phenemonal script, great performances and just oozes with heart, optimism and charm. So this video of  stars Joseph Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogen and writer Will Eisner (whom this true story is based on), chatting about the real-life events and how it inspired the film, is just a treat to watch. Check it out after the break.

As if Steven Spielberg’s upcoming epic biopic about our Abraham Lincoln, titled Lincoln, wasn’t bursting with acting talent already, it’s now about to explode. Months ago, arguably the best actor alive, Daniel Day-Lewis signed on to play our 16th president, and just a couple weeks ago Sally Field was cast as his wife Mary Todd. Today, Dreamworks sent out a press release announcing the additions of Tommy Lee Jones and Mr. Joseph Gordon-Levitt to the cast. Find out who they’re playing after the break.

It’s been a long drought of Dark Knight Rises news over the last month or so, but we now have “unofficial confirmation” (whatever that means) from Variety’s Jeff Sneider that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will indeed appear in the film as Alberto Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone, the main mob boss from Batman Begins portrayed by Tom Wilkinson. While Variety is one of the most reputable entertainment sources in the biz, and this is probably a done deal, Mr. Sneider was adamant in pointing out on Twitter that no “official confirmation” from Warner Bros. or Nolan’s camp was made. He stated:

Let me stress that NO ONE with the authority to do so has CONFIRMED this info. Not WB, not reps and certainly not Nolan or other producers.

Regardless, I trust my sources & stand by my story 100%. Do note that Comic Book Movie’s original ALBERTO FALCONE rumor was removed. Hmmm…

And the awesomeness just keeps on coming. As if last week’s announcement of Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy playing Selina Kyle and Bane respectively in The Dark Knight Rises wasn’t enough to wipe the drool from our mouths for a while, just a few hours ago Deadline broke the story that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “in talks” to re-team with Christopher Nolan for his final Batman flick. No word on what role JGL is coming on board to play, so let the speculation begin.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson could be starring in an adaptation of a zombie romantic comedy novel.  S. G. Browne published Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament in 2009.  The book tells the story of Andy (presumably JGL), a newly reanimated corpse.  Sentient and with personality and memories intact, Andy must navigate a world that hates him in a body that is literally wasting away. At an Undead Anonymous meeting he falls in love with Rita (probably Scarlett), a suicide to die for. Together they break zombie taboos and eventually become crusaders for the zombie rights movement across the US.

Want to know the best thing about Inception? This statement is going to stir up some objections, and don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Inception. But in my opinion, the best thing about Inception is Nolan finally being done with it. That said, the road to the untitled Batman 3 sequel to The Dark Knight begins now. While Nolan hasn’t revealed hardly a morsel of information about the highly anticipated third installment, we know for sure the script is near completion and the official release date is July 20th, 2012. While most of this news is a week or so old, I thought I would provide you with single, thorough update.

Netflix This: Brick

Posted by: | Comments (0)

In light of Inception fever sweeping the nation, for this edition of Netflix This, I thought I’d recommend a great indie thriller featuring two members of the Inception cast. The film is called Brick, a murder-mystery thriller written and directed by Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom), and starring Movie Mash favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Brick made a huge spash at Sundance back in 2005 with its bold, original style, and has become a cult classic among low-budget thrillers. It’s in my Top 10 of All Time, I just friggin love this movie.

Did I call it? Did I call it? Or…did I call it? Sorry for that, but I’ve been saying for a long time now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is on the brink of becoming a superstar.  JGL first came on to our radars back in the 1996 alien sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun. Since then, he’s put together an impressive portfolio of fantastic performances, mainly in low-budget indie films, most notably Brick and The Lookout. Then last year, he broke into the mainstream with the awesome romantic comedy (500) Days of Summer, even receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. And of course, you all know he stars along Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception this summer. Now, JGL is getting projects thrown at him left and right, two of which he is in negotiations to star. Find out what they are after the jump.
