Two reasons that made Inception such a polarizing film is because of a) the complex nature of the plot/narrative that subsequently b) made the ambiguous ending open to interpretation. This lack of concrete resolution didn’t sit well with a select few critics and audience members (most of which are too embarrassed or stubborn to say that they just didn’t “get it.”) I would also say this same resentful attitude towards Christopher Nolan’s intelligent blockbuster applies to Academy voters, who famously snubbed Nolan in the Best Director category two years ago. Which is why I wanted to share this presentation to you. It’s a video of the author of the book Inception and Philosophy (Kyle Johnson), passionately arguing why the film should have won Best Picture to Google employees, spurring some seriously interesting thoughts on the film’s clever and DELIBERATE subtext, within subtext, within subtext. Check it out after the break.
‘[the films of] Christopher Nolan’ — I Suggest You Watch This
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s no secret, that here at the The Movie Mash, we are big fans of Christopher Nolan. Barrett and Mike each have The Dark Knight, The Prestige, and Inception among their top ten movies of all-time — I have Batman Begins amongst my ten favorites. Nolan is a cinematic genius, and has yet to fail as a blockbuster filmmaker. Many montages have been made showcasing the director’s work, but I think this latest rendition is definitely one of the best. Hit the jump to watch it.

Sarah talked earlier about how she loves to watch short webisodes online, and I’m here to admit I have a tendency to spend hours browsing sites like 9gag.com and comixed checking out all the different creative pictures that are constantly surfacing on their home pages. Whether the creators are commenting on films, television, politics, or just life in general, you don’t have to go far to find a picture that will make you smile. Parodies of Christopher Nolan’s Best Work
Posted by: | CommentsI stumbled across these funny videos that are inspired by Hollywood’s most disrespected filmmaker, Christopher Nolan. Of course, anyone paying attention to last night’s Oscars saw Nolan lost Best Screenplay for his imagined masterpiece Inception. He was dissed months earlier by not even being nominated for Best Director. But, we all know he is the man and doesn’t need some gold statue and the adoration from a panel of aging critics to be a success. As they always say, “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” The three videos posted after the jump prove Nolan makes films people want to parody, mimic, and digest.
Rob’s Take on Oscar Hopefuls ‘Inception’ and ‘The King’s Speech’
Posted by: | CommentsInception
Dude, it’s like a dream within a dream (within a dream within a dream)! It sounds ridiculous when I say it like that, but Inception really is the most cinematic film of the year. Christopher Nolan creates an entire world from the intriguing premise – what if we could get inside someone else’s dream? Well, if you’re Mr. Nolan you’d get in there and steal something (extraction). Or, since that’s too easy, you’d want to get in there and plant something (inception).
Nolan and DiCaprio Excluded From Oscar Nominees — Typical Academy Antics
Posted by: | CommentsAs many movie buffs know, the Academy Award nominations were announced yesterday for the 83rd Oscars ceremony set to take place on February 27th. Of course not all of our favorite movies, actors, directors, or writers can be nominated; but seriously, some of the snubs by the snobs on the nomination panel are starting to get a little sickening. This year’s list of nominees is not only missing a few notable names, but features an actress being placed into the wrong category. The list this year is so absurd in places it has infuriated me so much I will vent to anyone who says “Oscars.” Hit the jump to read my frustrations with this year’s nominees.

Just last week we reported that Tom Hardy was the first new casting addition to Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight, currently titled Batman 3. I thought there would at least be a several week gap between that and the next casting rumbling, but alas Moviehole is reporting (via Screen Rant) that Nolan is meeting with a shortlist of young actresses to take the “lead female” role in his next Batman epic.
