Aaron Sorkin’s Latest Television Project ‘The Newsroom’ Previews Plenty of Drama
Posted by: | CommentsAaron Sorkin was one of my favorite screenwriters after I finished watching A Few Good Men for the first time. The story is legendary and so is the dialogue. What is one of the most iconic lines in movie history? “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” The man took home a well deserved Oscar for writing The Social Network, a movie filled with non-stop dialogue that was full of energy and emotion — Sorkin can also thank David Fincher and his team of Oscar-winning editors as well. After writing Moneyball, Sorkin has moved on to writing a television series for HBO called The Newsroom. Hit the jump to get our first look at the original show.
Rose Leslie Cast as Ygritte in ‘Game of Thrones’
Posted by: | CommentsNews from beyond the wall, we have a Ygritte (pronounced EYE-grit) for season two of Game of Thrones. Rose Leslie will be playing the rough, yet lovable wildling (via winter-is-coming). Aside from her role as Gwen in PBS‘s Downton Abbey, Leslie has not had a lot of acting experience. She will need to bring a lot of character to the table if she plans on living up to the rambunctious persona of Ygritte. One thing is certain, she is a perfect match as far appearance goes with her natural red hair and freckles, which are the two most prominent traits of Ygritte’s physical description in the books.

The Minnesota State Fair has come and gone, the temperature is starting to drop, and soon the leaves will change their colors and fall to the ground. Fear not, because with the end up Summer brings us the beginning of Fall. I don’t know what it is but something about this time of year gets me excited. It’s a great time for camping, hiking, bon fires, oh and how could I forget…. FALL TELEVISION!
Hmm…lets see. What do we have in store for us this year? Which of my aforementioned pilots were picked up, which did I leave out, and what shows have we forgotten about over the Summer? Let’s find out!
‘Game of Thrones’ – The 2011 Television Triumph

Any skepticism I had about Game of Thrones making it as a television series has been layed to rest. The show has been a thrilling success–it has enticed viewers in the same fashion that the book series captivated readers with its characters, complexity, and charisma. In fact, from what I have gathered many people who have not read the books are loving this HBO series. That is something worth celebrating a horn of wine over, while sitting at a long table in a world like Westeros. We can only imagine, and allow this TV show and the novels put us in the imaginary realm. The show is truly unlike any other fantasy you will ever watch–and now that episode 9 has left everyone in shock, waiting for some sort of release over the atrocity in King’s Landing, it is time to examine the gritty awesomeness of Game of Thrones.
HBO Releases Season Premiere Dates For Summer Shows
Posted by: | CommentsDisappointment lingers in the air during the end of Winter. Television season finales like Californication have come and gone, and in doing so have left us with a few weeks for our DVRs to FINALLY get the much needed rest they deserve. This disappointment won’t last because the arrival of Spring brings the chance to reconnect with our favorite characters from Summer shows. HBO announced the premiere dates for some of its upcoming Summer line up. Check the break for details.
HBO Playing a ‘Game of Thrones’ in April
Posted by: | CommentsHBO is launching a new series in April called Game of Thrones. The television series is based off a series of books called A Song of Ice and Fire, written by New York Times best selling fantasy novelist George R.R. Martin. Despite the fact Martin has only written through the fourth book of seven, HBO took on the production and has made mind blowing headway since the original rumors of an adaptation. Game of Thrones has the potential to be the best fantasy series to ever hit television with HBO at the reins. The fantasy within the story is subtle and dark, always lingering in the shadows of a cutthroat medieval land called Westeros. The character complex is harder to figure out than the politics between the Seven Kingdom’s battle for the iron throne. Only one thing is certain, “When you play a game of thrones you win or die. There is no middle ground” (George R.R. Martin). Hit the jump to learn more about Game of Thrones, view the show tease, and see behind the scenes production footage.
Barrett’s Review: HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ is a Fabulous Force to be Reckoned With
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: A
With True Blood and Entourage wrapped, and Mad Men winding down, I’m in desperate need of another Sunday night show to fill that premium cable void to pair alongside Dexter this fall. That show is here. I’ve been anticipating HBO’s new period-set gangster drama, Boardwalk Empire, ever since I saw the show’s trailer at the beginning of the summer. Not only did it look enthralling, gorgeous and badass, but the show’s creators (Sopranos creator Terence Winter and the legendary Martin Scorsese) have such unparalleled pedigrees of quality entertainment, that there was no way the show could be anything less than fantastic. And last night’s series premiere proved it to be just that.
Preview of HBO’s New WWII Mini-Series The Pacific; March Can’t Get Here Soon Enough
Posted by: | CommentsAsk anybody who has seen Band of Brothers and they will tell you the HBO mini-series is one of the greatest World War II stories ever told. The story is a true tale based on the brave paratroopers of Easy Company, some of the best soldiers the United States had to offer in WWII. The company dropped in behind enemy lines the night before D-Day with the mission to destroy Nazi fortifications and more specifically the artillery guns aimed at the Normandy beaches.
