Matt’s Review: ‘Green Lantern’ Caters To Its Target Audience, But That’s Not Bad Thing
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B+
Green Lantern was a movie I expected to disappoint. It surrounds a hero I know very little about. Ryan Reynolds is not my favorite actor — I don’t love Blake Lively either. The film was also converted to 3D in post production, which usually yields poor results. The initial previews left me skeptical as I could not embrace the campy full CGI suit Reynolds adorns after using his power ring. On top of my own suspicions, the film currently has a 23% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. However, don’t be swayed by the harsh critics, because I am here to say most comic fans and and any Sci-Fi nerd should feel right at home watching Green Lantern.
3D ‘Green Lantern’ Trailer
Posted by: | CommentsOk, obviously none of us can really watch this trailer in 3D right now since we have neither the glasses nor the technology on our computers to watch the trailer in the third dimension. The trailer is meant to be attached to the 3D movies hitting the theaters so viewers can watch the upcoming trailers in 3D also. Despite the 3D not being present for your “enjoyment pleasure”, I decided to pass this nugget along because it is a trailer unique to the previous two. This trailer provides those who know very little about Hal Jordan and Green Lantern some background to the protective heroes who watch over the galaxy, the lanterns. Watch the trailer after the jump.
New 4-Minute ‘Green Lantern’ Footage Offers Hope, Promise
Posted by: | CommentsWarner Bros. has been nearly silent about their upcoming DC summer blockbuster Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reyonlds, over the last several months – and rightfully so. Back in November, comic-book and movie geeks alike were up-in-arms after the first trailer dropped, which featured some noticeably awful visual effects on display. The reason for which, is because WB, director Martin Campbell & Co. were not ready to show the footage, as the complex VFX still needed a lot of work. But a the standard release of blockbuster trailers dictates, they had to show us something. Fortunately, much time has past since then, and the WB effects crew has been hard at work refining all the space-fighting action, and more importatnly, the Green Lantern suit and mask. It’s starting to look pretty damn sweet, and this new four-minute clip, shown at WonderCon over the weekend, has restored hope for the film.
Trailer Trash MASH: 2011 Summer Blockbuster Edition
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s easy to say this Trailer Trash Mash has two of the most prominent films we have ever featured in this segment; put them together, and we have our most legendary Trailer Trash Mash yet. Up on the menu are the trailers for Cars 2 and Green Lantern. I featured a teaser for Cars 2 a month back and a sneak peek at Green Lantern earlier this week. Well, the days of waiting for more are over. Hit the jump to check out the first trailers for Cars 2 and Green Lantern.
First Footage of ‘Green Lantern’
Posted by: | CommentsThe progress of Green Lantern has been kept under the radar throughout the film’s production. We have barely got a glimpse at Green Lantern himself besides a magazine layout in Entertainment Weekly. Word is the first trailer for Green Lantern will be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows next week. To give fans a brief look at the superhero before November 19th, Entertainment Tonight has a sneak peek at the first video of Ryan Reynolds transforming into Green Lantern and using the power ring. Hit the jump to see the first look of Green Lantern in action.
‘Green Lantern 2’ and ‘3’ Get Green-light, WB Hires Screenwriter
Posted by: | CommentsWow. Warner Bros. must have a ridiculous amount of confidence in their Green Lantern film, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds, currently filming in New Orleans. The film doesn’t come out until next June, but Variety is reporting (via ScreenRant) that WB has hired Michael Goldenberg to pen the script for Green Lantern 2. This comes just a few days after it was reported that Green Lantern 2 would start filming before the first film comes out, with the possibility of a third film being shot back-to-back with the second to complete a trilogy. Jeez, I gotta catch my breath. Which means Green Lantern 2 would be released in Christmas of 2012, and Green Lantern 3 the summer of 2013, similar to how WB has released chapters of the Harry Potter franchise. All I can say is, EFF YEAH!
Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern Suit Will Be Almost Entirely Computer-Generated
Posted by: | CommentsBreaking news from Peter Sciretta of Slashfilm that is probably giving a lot of comic-book fans a heart attack as an initial reaction. Peter is reporting, from a “trusted source” at Warner Bros., that Ryan Reynolds will not be wearing any kind of suit for the upcoming Green Lantern movie, because the suit will be almost entirely CG. Oh, and the featured picture above is fan-made, so that’s not what it will look like.
Blake Lively Cast as Female Lead in Green Lantern…(disappointed sigh)
Posted by: | CommentsWe reported way back in July that Ryan Reynolds had beat out Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake (seriously) for the role of Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell’s big screen adaptation of Green Lantern. While I am a big fan of Ryan Reynolds and think he is a very talented actor with has a promising career ahead of him, I was not a supporter of his casting for two reasons: 1) Reynold’s previous credits and acting style thus far does not at all fit the personality of Hal Jordan and 2) He’s already headlining another superhero franchise as Deadpool in Marvel’s spin-off of Reynold’s character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
We Finally Have Our Green Lantern, It’s Ryan Reynolds (Disappointing Sigh)

The Movie Mash has been discussing the ongoing Green Lantern actor search for a while now. After the Earth-shattering success of The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. decided to make a long-term commitment in developing the hundreds of superhero characters at their disposal into potentially successful movie franchises. The next hopeful money-maker for WB is the first mega-adaptation of the hugely popular Green Lantern comic series, which has been around for over half a century. Warner picked Bond director Martin Campbell (Golden Eye, Casino Royale) to bring GL to life in his first big Sci-Fi action spectacle.
Some Quick Tidbits

Terminator Mash-Fest!
• Warner Bros. has released nearly 60 new photos from Terminator Salvation which opens in 12 days. Photo left features Christian Bale as resistance-leader John Connor in what could be a manufacturing lab of the SkyNet killer machines. That’s just my guess. And at first I was skeptical about the PG-13 rating, being that all three previous Terminator films were R, but it looks as though this installment is still going to kick ass ant take names regardless. Check out the rest of the awesome pics HERE.
• WB has also released an extended 4-minute trailer of Terminator, giving us an ass-load of new footage of the upcoming blockbuster. As tempting as it is, I am resisting the urge to watch. I want to go in as fresh as I can (minus the photos and previous trailers). However, feel free to check it out and post your opinions below. Terminator Salvation opens everywhere May 21st.
• Yahoo! Movies debuted the final, epic, kick-ass one-sheet poster for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. JK, it’s actually quite lame-sauce.
Green Lantern Update
• A couple days ago I posted news that Wedding Crashers douche-bag (Sack Lunch) Bradley Cooper, was the front-runner to dawn the power ring for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Green Lantern flick. Well…90210′s Brian Austin Green and some other guy, are also reportedly in the mix to play Hal Jordan. BAG apparently is campaigning pretty hard for the part and has already done screen tests, read for the role and has even worn the green mask. That’s awesome! Hopefully BAG can rap the theme song:
“Yo, my name’s Hal Jordan, but people call me Green Lantern. I say I don’t have a power ring, but that’s just superhero banter.”
You might be asking “What the F are you talking about Rabs?” Well, check out the video below and you’ll see what I mean. It’s Brian Austin Green’s music video for his mega smash hit song “You Send Me” from his debut rap album One Stop Carnival during his stint on 90210 in 1996. (FF to :25)
This guy is on the short list to be Green Lantern???? Please God, tell me that is not going to be the one washed-up former teen heartthrob, out of thousands of possibilities of actors, that will be chosen to be the face of what hopes to be a kick-ass new superhero franchise. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
What Do You Think? Discuss.
