Posted by: | CommentsIn this weeks’ edition of The MashCast, Matthew, Mike and I discuss some of the films that we saw last week, including: Flowers of War, Haywire, Man on a Ledge and Red Tails. We also discuss a HUGE Dark Knight Rises spoiler per an interview with a member of the cast, where she let a bomb drop about the identity of her character. Last on the docket, the new trailer for the Keanu Reeves documentary Side by Side, which tackles the ongoing debate about the technological revolution/transition of film-to-digital filmmaking.

Mike’s Review: ‘Red Tails’ Crashes And Burns
Posted by: | Comments
GRADE: F
Yes, I went there. A pun review title. And trust me, that’s still less cheesy than Red Tails. You know how they say January is the dumping ground for bad movies? Red Tails reinforces that, and it’s unfortunate because the story of the Tuskegee Airmen deserves so much. If it didn’t take itself so seriously, maybe it could have been less embarrassing.
Star Wars in Glorious Blu-ray Announced for Fall 2011, Deleted ROTJ Scene Unveiled
Posted by: | CommentsDid you feel that? It kind of felt like the ground shook a little. It couldn’t be an earthquake though, becuase I’m in Minneapolis. Oh, I know what it is, it’s a worldwide collective nerdgasm, the likes of which could cause a devastating apocalyptic natural disaster ala The Day After Tomorrow. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. At Star Wars Celebration V over the weekend in Orlando, FL, George Lucas made THE announcement, that the complete Star Wars Saga would be hitting Blu-ray shelves in the fall of 2011. To this point there have been countless re-releases of the Star Wars films, featuring various added scenes, digital re-mastery, etc. But this will be the first time fans will be able to watch the legendary film series in beautiful, crisp, high-definition.
Shia LaBeouf Stirs Things Up, Apologizes for Transformers and Indiana Jones Sequels
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s no secret that a majority of critics and movie-goers felt that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Indiana Jones and the Kindom of the Crystal Skull were disappointing sequels. It’s certainly hard to live up to the commercial and critical successes of a popular franchise when making a sequel, but rarely does the star of said films publicly say that “we could have done better;” especially when said films still made hundreds of millions of dollars, despite their lack of quality. Well, Shia LaBeouf is the exception to that rule, by publicly acknowledging to fans that the Transformers and Indiana Jones sequels of which he starred in, could have/should have been better.
Rant: Star Wars, George Lucas and 3-D
Posted by: | CommentsBrowsing the internet a few weeks back I stumbled upon some very interesting Star Wars news. The first bit of reading involved George Lucas’s comments following his screening of Avatar. Lucas was impressed with the magnitude of what James Cameron was able to accomplish with the project and the integration of the third dimension (via Access Hollywood):
I’m happy it’s so successful, and worked very well in 3-D, haven’t been a big fan of 3-D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3-D. We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it in 3-D. But, [the] technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.
