Archive for Dexter

A few days ago I posted a lineup of new photos from The Amazing Spider-Man. The set photos got a Spidey fan like myself ready for the Summer 2012 reboot. Now with Comic Con going on in San Diego, of course fans are going to get some more juicy bits from the upcoming comic book films. Add The Amazing Spider-Man to the list as the teaser hit the web the other day.

Yesterday
I posted the Dexter teaser for Season Six. But today the full trailer came about for the new season, and instead of adding it to the teaser post of yesterday, I’ll add it here. Dexter deserves two posts in two days. Did I mention I love Dexter?

Dexter. If you haven’t seen it, you have five seasons to catch up on. Dexter is my favorite show, and one that has never disappointed me. Never once, in its five season run. I have savored every moment. If you haven’t seen Dexter, I envy you. You have the chance to see it all for the first time — to revel in the shock each season brings. Just if I could hook up with Will Smith, he could flashy-thing me. I’d forget it all. However, new blood is on the horizon — the new episodes of Season Six are just around the corner. Hit the jump to watch the promo for the newest season of Dexter.

We’ve got some news on the Dexter front; Colin Hanks and Mos Def will be joining the cast for the upcoming sixth season. On first hearing the news I thought, “Hmm alright… I guess I can see this working out.” As the news sank in I started to feel more positive about it. Colin Hanks has some good stuff under his belt — one of my personal favorites The Great Buck Howard (good ups on this recommendation Matt). As for Mos Def, well normally I’d probably have to hate on any rapper/actor joining one of my favorite shows; but I like Mos Def. He’s definitely no Oscar winner or anything, but damn its better than having Tyrese join the cast! Check out more on Dexter as well as a teaser trailer below.

I came across all three of these videos while browsing various entertainment websites earlier today. Since they all intrigued a movie fanatic like myself, I thought I would pass them along to the Movie Mash readers. One video is spotlighting the wonder digital effects can have on a film like Black Swan. The video shows the original shots juxtaposed against the final shots rendered with computer effects. It really is quite amazing what computers can do these days.

Also posted after the break are two videos surrounding Michael C. Hall. The first is a trailer for Peep World, a film starring Hall as well as other prominent actors from the film community. The latter actually has no Michael C. Hall at all (huh, I rhymed), but is a parody of my favorite television show Dexter. Hit the jump to see the videos.

Five months ago I thought, “Finally, September 26th is upon us.” My anticipation for the date lies with the best show on the small screen making its triumphant return to television. That Sunday evening marked the season five premiere of the Showtime hit Dexter.

Dexter is the best show on television, period. Dexter Morgan is the most compelling character on television, period. I spent half of my past summer catching up on seasons 1-4 and the other half eagerly anticipating the answers season five would bring. After seeing the first episode of the new season, I was blown away as the show continues to get better as it marches on. Each episode is good individually, but the heart of the show’s success stems from the overarching narrative that works itself through each season.

If you have not seen all the episodes of Dexter, DON’T READ THIS ARTICLE. I am going to spend some time piecing together the seasons and glorifying some of my favorite moments. I will not avoid spoilers, so if you haven’t watched up to season five, check back after you have.

For all those nervous Dexter is going to die this season, confirmation the series will get a sixth season should be enough to let you know that our favorite serial killer will be at it again; well, at least one more season. Dexter is a show that never has lost appeal with me. Each season brings new conflict and more outside pressure weighing down on the killer who is arguably an introvert.

Dexter seems to be continuously ascending in the television circle. The episode airing on November 28th nabbed the show’s highest ratings ever, ever! The Dexter following gets larger as fans across the board tell their friends about the Showtime series few dislike. So if you haven’t yet, watch Dexter — or as I like to call it, television’s best show. What could the sixth season bring? LeBron bringing his talents to South beach? After the season wraps up next Sunday, check back for my thoughts and review of the fifth season. This post also marks the 600th for The Movie Mash… hip-hip, hooray.

Being a huge fan of the Showtime series Dexter, I was pumped to see television’s greatest show branching out with a small web-based video narrative. The story picks up before we have ever seen Dexter before by showing the calculated killer in his college days. Faithful viewers of the show can recognize his raw technique in the way he subdues his chosen victims; Dexter uses an arms length of piano wire as opposed to the subtle and perfected use of M99 in a syringe. The short story comes in six parts, and to see them and my thoughts you will have to hit the jump.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

This article contains spoilers from last season, season 4. You’ve been warned. Showtime debuted the trailer for Season 5 of Dexter (my favorite show) at Comic-Con this weekend, and boy am I PUMPED!  From the brilliant Golden Globe-winning performance by John Lithgow as the Trinity killer, to the tear-jerking final scene of Dexter holding Rita’s lifeless, blood-covered body, it’s going to be hard to top last season. But Showtime certainly seems keen on trying. What is something that has always been a serious risk and danger for Dexter, but has never publicly come to fruition? Being the prime suspect. In Season 5, after being at the scene of the crime of Rita’s murder, he becomes just that.

Dexter, in my opinion, is the best show on television. It’s such a brilliant, unique concept with some of the most compelling storytelling to ever grace the medium. Not to mention that Michael C. Hall and the rest of the show’s actors boast one of the most impressive casts on TV. So it’s with great pleasure to see Entertainment Weekly reporting that cutie-pie Julia Stiles (Bourne franchise, 10 Things I Hate About You) is in “advanced talks” to join the show for the upcoming fifth season.

Some Quick Tidbits

● Another epic comedy ensemble is being formed, this time for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Paul. The writing-team blokes from the UK, responsible for bringing us Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, wrote the script for Paul. It’s about two British nerds who go to Comic-Con in America and during their road trip they stop off at Area 51 due to their Alien affinity/nerdery. There, they meet an alien named Paul who asks them to help him escape from the U.S Government. Sounds pretty hysterical. Variety reported yesterday that Jason Batemen, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogen have all signed on to comprise the rest of the cast. Rogen is apparently not in the actual movie, but rather the voice-over for the main alien/title character, Paul. What makes this movie absolutely pure gold is the fact that it’s being directed by Greg Mottola, director of Superbad and Adventureland. Thanks to SlashFilm for the image. Paul will comence filming next month with TBD release date in 2010.
