Really Bad News — Darren Aronofsky No Longer Directing ‘The Wolverine’
Posted by: | CommentsWell this almost completely dashes my hopes for The Wolverine being any good. Darren Aronofsky, director of The Wrestler, Black Swan, and Requiem for a Dream, is no longer taking the reigns of the latest Wolverine adaptation. Initially I thought it was a strange move for this unique director to lead a new Wolverine seeing as the last one was in most regards, a failure (after watching it twice, the film has almost no replay value). Though I thought it was odd for Aronofsky to direct, I was definitely excited to see what he could bring to the series. Now this anticipation is snuffed with him gone; a search for a new director has begun.
When Critics Attack: Armond White Strikes at the NYFCC – Darren Aronofsky Strikes Back
Posted by: | CommentsThe annual New York Film Critics Circle dinner brought out the stars on Monday night. All the A-list awards hopefuls were there: Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, etc. It’s a night where critics honor the actors, writers and directors who make the movies that they critique, thus giving them a job. It’s supposed to be a night of respect, admiration and celebration of all the great films and performances of the past year. That is, of course, when contrarian film critic and certified douchebag Armond White of the New York Press isn’t hosting. The infamous critic who notoriously bashes nearly every film that the rest of the world considers great, created some apparently uncomfortable and awkward moments at the ceremony, most notably when Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky had enough and struck back.
Barrett’s Awards Season Review: ‘Black Swan’ is a Dark, Disturbing Masterpiece
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: A+
In a year when Inception appears to be the culmination of Christopher Nolan’s career work, resulting in his finest film and what some people consider to be his “masterpiece,” Darren Aronofsky is following a similar path with his brilliant, incomparable psycho-ballet thriller, Black Swan. The film is one of the most intensely heart-wrenching and mind-bending experiences I’ve had at the theaters. As the film’s mesmerizing ending crescendos into its climax, when the credits started to roll, I was pinned into my seat. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. My jaw was dropped, and I wanted to cry at the beautiful art I had just witnessed. Darren Aronofsky has used bits from each of his previous films to create a truly unforgettable film that should be a serious contender this awards season, Natalie Portman especially. For me, Black Swan is “perfect” and it is Aronofsky’s masterpiece.
It’s Confirmed (ugh), Darren Aronofsky Will Direct ‘Wolverine 2’
Posted by: | CommentsSay it ain’t so, Darren. Say it ain’t so. As we all know, Zack Snyder was announced to direct Christopher Nolan’s Superman reboot a couple weeks back. What you perhaps didn’t know, is that Requiem for a Dream/The Wrestler/Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky was heavily speculated upon to take over Supes just before Synder’s confirmation. Well, DC’s loss is Marvel’s gain, I guess, as Hugh Jackman has confirmed that Aronofsky will direct him in the upcoming sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (face palm/smh).
Many of you may have seen the trailer and movie poster (profiled by Barrett) for the upcoming flick Black Swan. The movie is from the twisted mind of Darren Aronofsky, the man who brought us The Wrestler, The Fountain, Pi, and the well-known Requiem for a Dream. His movies always seem to have a demented angle to them, and Black Swan looks no different if you have seen the preview. Even though Aronofsky pushes the envelope with each of his projects, audiences usually respond well to the message he is trying to convey.
Movie Poster and Trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’
Posted by: | CommentsAnd now the awards season has begun. In a few weeks, the studios who have “Oscar films” will be debuting many of them at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. One of those highly-anticipated Oscar films is Darren Aronofky’s Black Swan. Aronofsky has been making chilling, disturbing films that warp the brain since his controversial debut in 1998, Pi. He earned his stripes among film buffs with Pi and the brilliant Requiem for a Dream in 2000, but it wasn’t until The Wrestler resurrected Mickey Rourke’s career in 08′, that Aronofsky started to get the recognition that he deserves. This year, he’s got the Prestige-esque ballet thriller Black Swan, pitting Natalie Portman against Mila Kunis. Need I say more?
MOVIE MASH POLL: Who Should/Could Replace Christopher Nolan?

So after yesterday’s post of the “reported” upcoming Warner Bros. announcement this January regarding Batman 3 and Christopher Nolan’s involvement, I thought it would be perfect timing to see who you guys think WB suits should try to woo if Nolan does indeed decide to pass on returning.
Analysis after the break.
