KNEEL BEFORE… Michael Shannon?? Yes it is confirmed. Phenomenal character actor Michael Shannon, who can be currently seen chasing Nucky Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, has officially been cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, which has now also been officially titled the long rumored Man of Steel. Shannon joins the film as the main villain along with an already stellar cast, including: Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Talks to Join ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Posted by: | CommentsAnd the awesomeness just keeps on coming. As if last week’s announcement of Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy playing Selina Kyle and Bane respectively in The Dark Knight Rises wasn’t enough to wipe the drool from our mouths for a while, just a few hours ago Deadline broke the story that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “in talks” to re-team with Christopher Nolan for his final Batman flick. No word on what role JGL is coming on board to play, so let the speculation begin.
Henry Cavill is Our New Superman
Posted by: | CommentsFINALLY! After months of rumors and speculation on who would don the red cape in Zack Snyder/Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Superman reboot (tentatively titled Superman: Man of Steel), we now have official word via a Warner Bros. press release that Henry Cavill has been given the job. Cavill is a relatively “unknown” actor, which fits into the criteria Snyder and Nolan had set in narrowing down their search for Clark Kent. Over the past five years he’s played Charles Brandon on Showtime’s fantastic period drama about the life and times of King Henry VIII, The Tudors.
In a surprise announcement that took the internet by storm today, resulting in FIVE simultaneous related trending topics on Twitter, Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan have officially confirmed (via press release) that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy will play Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. This ends over two long years of speculation of who the baddies will be in Nolan’s last Batman film. Just last week we posted a report claiming that Hathaway was battling for two lead roles in the film, the other being Talia al Ghul. While that report could still stand true (Talia’s inclusion), we now, FINALLY, have the word directly from Nolan’s mouth that Hathaway is his girl.
We haven’t heard a peep of casting rumors or news from The Dark Knight Rises since that supposed “shortlist” of actresses popped up online exactly two months ago. Well, a new year brings us a new slate of casting tidbits, as two separate reports claim different actresses are either meeting with producers and/or have already been given roles. Although neither report received confimation from Warner Bros., one thing is for certain: everyone in Hollywood wants to work with Christopher Nolan.
A few weeks ago we reported that Christopher Nolan was planning to meet with potential actresses for an unspecified lead female role in The Dark Knight Rises. About a week later, rumors were circulating that Nolan was eying Charlize Theron, Vera Farminga and Kacie Thomas to play the roles of Detective Sarah Essen and Julie Madison; that latter of whom was most recently, and I might add, brilliantly portrayed by Elle McPherson in the timeless Batman and Robin. Picking up on my sarcasm, eh? That rumor was never substantiated. Today, Deadline is reporting that Nolan will be meeting with six A-list actresses for TWO lead female roles for his Batman finale.
Leonardo DiCaprio to Play America’s First Serial Killer in ‘The Devil in the White City’
Posted by: | CommentsIf there’s one thing that can be said about Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s that he’s an actor who continually strives to challenge himself. Coming off arguably the best year of his career with Shutter Island and Inception, Leo is currently slated to portray J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming biopic of the controversial co-founder of the FBI in Hoover. But one glaring omission in Leo’s already legendary career is playing a bad guy. Sure, he’s played a morally-ambiguous protagonist before, but he’s never been a full-fledged villain. Well, that’s all about to change as Deadline is reporting (via First Showing) that Leo is set to play America’s first serial killer in the big screen adaption of The Devil in the White City.
Just last week we reported that Tom Hardy was the first new casting addition to Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight, currently titled Batman 3. I thought there would at least be a several week gap between that and the next casting rumbling, but alas Moviehole is reporting (via Screen Rant) that Nolan is meeting with a shortlist of young actresses to take the “lead female” role in his next Batman epic.
Spider-Man Reboot Gets a Villain
Posted by: | CommentsA whirlwind of speculation from fan boys has been circulating the web about Spider-Man‘s supposed adversary over the past weeks. The Lizard was the most prominent rumor, and now that guesswork has proven true. Just days ago Rhys Ifans (Pirate Radio, Little Nicky) was announced as the villain in the Spider-Man reboot, but I favored on waiting to post about it until his actual character was announced. That day has arrived as Ifans will be playing Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard (via The Wrap). Bad news for Dylan Baker right? Check the jump for more details.
It Begins: Tom Hardy Officially Cast in ‘Batman 3’
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve had a stupid grin on my face all day. Did I just get back from a date with Evangeline Lilly? No. Did I win a free iPad? Nope. Did some concrete casting news surrounding possibly one of the most-anticipated movies ever finally break? Yup. Deadline has the exclusive scoop (via Nolan Fans) that Inception‘s Tom Hardy has been tapped by Christopher Nolan to appear in his sequel to The Dark Knight, currently labeled Batman 3. Is he going to play The Riddler? Maybe Black Mask? Perhaps Deadshot? Or possibly some mysterious new character that Nolan & Co. have cooked up? Find out after the break.
