Looks like Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively got some disappointing phone calls from their agents this morning. If you remember a few weeks ago, we reported that Johansson had the lead female role locked up for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. That is, until, it surfaced that Lively had apparently attempted to swipe the role from Johansson, conjuring up some under-the-radar casting cat-fight. But it all appears to be moot, as Natalie Portman has reportedly (via Risky Business) been officially offered the starring role in the sci-fi project, joining Robert Downey Jr who has a supporting role.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson could be starring in an adaptation of a zombie romantic comedy novel.  S. G. Browne published Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament in 2009.  The book tells the story of Andy (presumably JGL), a newly reanimated corpse.  Sentient and with personality and memories intact, Andy must navigate a world that hates him in a body that is literally wasting away. At an Undead Anonymous meeting he falls in love with Rita (probably Scarlett), a suicide to die for. Together they break zombie taboos and eventually become crusaders for the zombie rights movement across the US.

Well, its safe to say that Jeremy Renner, star of Oscar Gem The Hurt Locker, has ascended to the cusp of the Hollywood elite. Whether or not he will stay there is up to him. If I ventured a guess it would be that he will be around for awhile. Although I did not personally think The Hurt Locker was all that it was cracked up to be by the adoring critics (see my review here), Renner did a superb job with his unbalanced character William James. Apparently, I was not the only one to take notice of the talent this 39 year-old possesses.

Well, my hope that Alice Eve would be cast as Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class has been crushed. It was announced via Deadline that January Jones will be playing the character. My disappointment gets worse as I hear Jones has talent on the hit show Mad Men, but appears to be type-cast into her role as Betty Draper on the AMC program. Playing Emma Frost requires a bit a sass, something many devoted movie and comic fans do not think Jones can pull off. Sadly, I have not seen  . But it is on my list of shows to watch, so sheath your pestering of my failure to watch the show.

I’m sure that after Iron Man’s massive success, Robert Downey Jr. knew that he was back. But I bet he didn’t know that the top actresses in Hollywood would engage in a steel-cage death match to work with him. Well, maybe not a steel-cage death match, but according to Heat Vision (via Collider), Blake Lively is reportedly “scheming to steal” the lead female role in Gravity, the upcoming sci-fi drama co-starring RDJ, from Children of Men writer/director Alfonso Cuarón. Scarlett Johansson reportedly “verbally agreed” to star in the film, but apparently that report was premature.

I’ve recently been sucked into the crime drama, Bones, and have grown attached to the lead, Emily Deschanel. Her ability to transform into the socially awkward Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan amazes me. Plus, the fact that she’s the older sister of the lovely Zooey Deschanel doesn’t hurt either so I was thrilled to hear that she’ll be starring in a new indie, drama/comedy The Perfect Family.

A couple months ago we reported that Leonardo DiCaprio was in “early talks” to play eccentric FBI founder J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s biopic, currently being labeled Hoover. That report is now confirmed as Deadline is now stating that Leo has officially signed on to star in the project. The script was written by Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk, Dustin Lance Black, with the project being fast-tracked at Warner Bros. to get production underway later this year.

As the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur’s infamous rap battle in the mid-90’s made them THE two most famous and beloved rappers of all time, it also spawned a slew of documentaries and TV specials chronicling their lives. It wasn’t until last year’s Notorious, that one of them was portrayed on the big screen by an actor in a studio-made feature film, that of course being Biggie. I thought that film was fantastic, mostly because of the near flawless performance by rookie actor Jamal Woolward. Now it looks as though Tupac will get his feature film due at the behest of Training Day director Antoin Fuqua.

So we all know that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb is set to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi’s fourth installment with Toby Maguire went down the crapper. Aside from seeing the different direction Webb will be taking the web-slinger, the biggest issue left is which actor will replace Maguire as Peter Parker. There have been rumors of Logan Lerman of Percy Jackson & The Olympians, seemingly being sought after for the role, but no official reports have been confirmed. There is one actor, however, who is actively campaigning for the role, an actor that might have been the last person anyone would have ever thought to play Spidey, and that man is Donald Glover of NBC’s Community.
