For years the sequel to Anchorman has been stalled by what seemed to be a brick wall built of scheduling conflicts, budget problems, and Adam McKay not being on the same page with Paramount. It all seemed to add up to Anchorman 2 never being realized. Enter Ron Burgandy. Last night Will Ferrell, dressed in one of his “suits so fine,” came out from the shadows with his jazz flute in hand to make a major announcement. Hit the jump to hear it from Burgandy himself.

GRADE: B-

This movie is very similar to Dinner for Schmucks in that it is a comedy featuring a tag team of lead actors who together form the only soluble piece for the entire film. Instead of the comedic duo of Carell and Rudd, The Other Guys features the mostly unfunny Mark Wahlberg and the most often funny Will Ferrell. I am going to try my hardest not to let my disdain for Wahlberg shine through in this review, but I cannot promise anything.

anchorman

Last May we reported Will Ferrel discussing the possible Anchorman sequel, where he stated that “everyone is meeting next week to discuss it.” Since then, there hasn’t been any significant developments. Now we have word that the cast (Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Christian Applegate, Steve Carell, David Koechner) and co-writer/director Adam McKay, are all on board, but are waiting for the approval from Paramount before proceeding.
