Rose Leslie Cast as Ygritte in ‘Game of Thrones’
Posted by: | CommentsNews from beyond the wall, we have a Ygritte (pronounced EYE-grit) for season two of Game of Thrones. Rose Leslie will be playing the rough, yet lovable wildling (via winter-is-coming). Aside from her role as Gwen in PBS‘s Downton Abbey, Leslie has not had a lot of acting experience. She will need to bring a lot of character to the table if she plans on living up to the rambunctious persona of Ygritte. One thing is certain, she is a perfect match as far appearance goes with her natural red hair and freckles, which are the two most prominent traits of Ygritte’s physical description in the books.
Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy Signed Onto ‘Broken’
Posted by: | CommentsA potentially brilliant adaptation of Daniel Clay’s novel, Broken, will begin production under the same title next month in the U.K. (via TheHollywoodReporter). The screenplay was written by Mark O’Rowe and will be the first feature film that the acclaimed theater director, Rufus Norris, has ever directed. Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy have recently been cast for starring roles in the film. The story is about a little girl who witnesses an attack in her neighborhood, while examining the repercussions it has on her and those involved. Over the past five years Justin Timberlake has halted his music career to pursue acting. In that time he’s delivered a handful of solid performances in a wide variety of films, including: Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, The Social Network, Friends with Benefits and the upcoming In Time. Now it seems that he’s looking to actively pursue some awards recognition by taking the lead role in Spinning Gold, a biopic on record producer Neil Bogart, the co-founder of Casablanca Records and pillar of the 70′s music scene.
If you’re wondering, “Wasn’t Jeremy Renner just in a heist film?” The answer is yes, The Town. If you’re wondering, “Is Renner blowing up right now?” The answer is also yes. Renner has just been reported to join an upcoming film called King of Heists (via Deadline). Give the man a break Hollywood, he might need a second to breathe. Renner is starring alongside Tom Cruise in the upcoming Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, will play Hawkeye in next Summer’s The Avengers, and recently finished Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Oh, did I forget to mention he is about to start production on The Bourne Legacy, the film where he will be taking the mantel from Jason Bourne in the series’ fourth installment? Not sure how I feel about another Bourne film, but nonetheless, the man is coveted by many.
Zack Snyder Has Found His Jor-El for ‘Man of Steel’…That Man is Russell Crowe
Posted by: | CommentsBIG news on the superhero movie casting front. As you know, Zack Snyder has been piling up the acting talent for his upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel, over the past few months. So far, he has Henry Cavill (Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (Zod), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Kevin Costner (Pa Kent) rounding out the impressive cast. But there has been a major casting hole thus far, that has now been filled. I am of course referring to Superman’s bilogical father from Krypton, Jor-El, who was famously played by Marlon Brando in Richard Donner’s Superman films. Now, he will be played by none other than Russell Crowe. I mean…that’s just awesome.
Legolas — Err — Orlando Bloom Joins Cast of ‘The Hobbit’
Posted by: | CommentsThe official Facebook page for The Hobbit has confirmed Orlando Bloom will be reprising his role as Legolas. I will shamefully admit that it has been so long since I have read The Hobbit as a child that I barely remember the story. I don’t really remember how Legolas fits into the story or if he is in the book at all. All you experts out there, please advise.
Either way, this is great news to me. Legolas was one of my favorite characters among the barrage of likable faces in the LOTR trilogy, and I can’t wait to see the elf back at it again. This also gives me the opportunity to tell Movie Mash readers to “Like” The Hobbit Facebook page, because it has some real insight and a behind-the-scenes look into the film’s production. Jackson has already posted a 10 minute video showing Tolkien fans some of the elaborate and beautiful sets as well as actors walking around in the pre-production meetings. Any LOTR fan should not miss out on the real-time updates and fan interaction on the page.
What Do You Think About Legolas Joining The Cast?
Colin Hanks & Mos Def Will Join Everyone’s Favorite Serial Killer ‘Dexter’
Posted by: | CommentsWe’ve got some news on the Dexter front; Colin Hanks and Mos Def will be joining the cast for the upcoming sixth season. On first hearing the news I thought, “Hmm alright… I guess I can see this working out.” As the news sank in I started to feel more positive about it. Colin Hanks has some good stuff under his belt — one of my personal favorites The Great Buck Howard (good ups on this recommendation Matt). As for Mos Def, well normally I’d probably have to hate on any rapper/actor joining one of my favorite shows; but I like Mos Def. He’s definitely no Oscar winner or anything, but damn its better than having Tyrese join the cast! Check out more on Dexter as well as a teaser trailer below.
Movie Making: Journal Entry #3
Posted by: | CommentsIn this edition of Movie Making, I will update readers on my pre-production progress for my still untitled film — coming up with a title that doesn’t suck is not easy — I’m open to suggestions. With principal photography starting this upcoming weekend, there are still a lot of loose ends to tie up. The script is completed, but by completed, I don’t mean that it’s set in stone. One thing I have learned from the great filmmaker Alexander MacKendrick is the process of writing a script is one of revision.
Amy Adams Will Be Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’
Posted by: | CommentsThe role of Lois Lane in the Superman reboot has been rumored about for months now. So many moderately talented actresses like Kristin Stewart and Olivia Wilde have been thrown into the mix to play the role. Thankfully, director Zack Snyder has settled on Amy Adams, an actress who is not only beautiful, but immensely talented. Kate Bosworth, who played Lois Lane in the 2006 Superman Returns, can’t hold a candle to the talents of Adams. Consider the three-time Oscar nominated actress an upgrade. She is the perfect choice for the strong-willed and sassy Lois Lane.
