‘Catching Fire’ Finally Nabs a Director — Francis Lawrence Takes the Helm
Posted by: | CommentsThe sequel to The Hunger Games now has a new director, something we have expected since Gary Ross stepped down in early April. Of course, this is great news to me considering the deepest flaw in The Hunger Games was the lack of technical quality — shaky camera to the tenth degree. I’m glad to see a competent director is taking over this beloved franchise. Not that Ross isn’t competent, because his work on Seabiscuit and Pleasantville was great, but it will be refreshing to see a new artist’s take on this series. The directing could not possibly get worse than Ross’ effort on the first film. Now Franchise Lawrence will take the lead, presenting the second film set to debut on November 22nd, 2013.
If Batman Were An Idiot, It Would Look Like This — ‘Batman: False Start’
Posted by: | CommentsThis definitely isn’t the best parody video out there, the guy who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman looks like he should be in a dumpy fast food commercial, but the ending sure gave me a good laugh. With The Dark Knight Rises on the horizon, the influx of Batman parodies is surely going continue to rise. Every guy and their brother does a raspy Batman parody. This one is mostly mediocre, except for the ending. So check it out, and stay til the end.
Matt’s Review: ‘The Raid: Redemption’ Boasts Gritty Realistic Action Rivaled By Few
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B
Sure many of you have not heard of The Raid: Redemption, but the film has slowly worked itself from foreign film to small American markets to a fairly wide distribution. The reason this film’s reach has expanded so much centers around the breathtaking action sequences that evoke “ooos & aahhs” from the watching audience. This film features some of the most violent and brutal action sequences I’ve ever witnessed. The Raid: Redemption is not for the faint of heart — it’s for those hardcore adrenaline junkies who are missing out with today’s mainstream American action flicks.
‘Lawless’ Shows Off Two of Hollywood’s Rising Stars
Posted by: | CommentsJosh posted a set photo from Lawless a few days back, today we get a full length first trailer. I’ve got to say, Lawless just jumped pretty high on my ‘Dying to See List’ from this cast alone. Look at all the big names in this film. Aside from two of the busiest talents in the business, Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain, the film stars Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, and the always fresh Gary Oldman. And it’s about bootlegging liquor in the south during prohibition. Can I buy my tickets now?
Matt’s Review: ‘Titanic 3D’ is the Movie We All Remember With a Little Extra Flair
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: A
Sure, most of us have seen Titanic before, but many missed the opportunity to see it on the big screen the first time around. I was amongst those few and I wanted to see Titanic 3D not only for the chance to see it projected at the theater, but also to get a look at James Cameron’s attempt at creating a worthwhile post conversion 3D experience. Despite me still having gripes about pieces of the 3D in the film, this post conversion effort was the best I’ve seen to date.
Steven Spielberg’s Next Box Office Hit — ‘Laser Cats’
Posted by: | CommentsAlright, while this might not be ripe for box office success, it’s great for a few minutes of laughs. It’s always fun to see a serious artist like Steven Spielberg having some fun, especially when pieces of this video parody some of the famous director’s most notable works. Many consider Saturday Night Live to be declining in quality, I am amongst those critics, but every now and then the show features a real gem like this one.
The Best Spidey Poster to Date — ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Final Poster
Posted by: | CommentsThis newest poster is every bit the reason why I want to see The Amazing Spider-Man. It’s absolutely beautiful. It even plays a little bit at Raimi’s trilogy posters where Spidey’s eyes reflect his gaze. And instead of having the villain projected on the eyes like Spider-Man 2, this poster teases its villain with the slashes on Spidey’s chest. Hit the jump to see the full spread.

The Cabin in the Woods looks like the conventional horror flick where a band of good looking younglings congregate to party at a creepy north woods cabin only to be interrupted by a merciless killer. But don’t take this film at face value, because there are many hidden secrets buried within. In this review I won’t spend a second going deeper into said secrets, because this is something you should discover on your own should you decide to see it.
Netflix This: ‘Ip Man’
Posted by: | CommentsDo you like martial arts films? If you answered yes, then you need to make time for Ip Man. This is arguably the best martial arts film I’ve ever seen — Ong Bak is right up there too. After being told by countless people that I needed to see this film, I finally sought it out on Netflix (now I’m just finishing up the sequel). To those who recommended it to me, I thank you. For those who watch Ip Man on my recommendation, you’re welcome.
Matt’s Review: ‘American Reunion’ is Funny, But Tries Way Too Hard to Be So Much More
Posted by: | CommentsGRADE: B-
Did we really need a fourth American Pie? Absolutely not. But considering I spent time with the previous three films this ‘final’ chapter (don’t be surprised if there is American Pie 5: Hey, We’re 50!) was something I had to make time for, and it was worthwhile for more reasons than one. While this film is chocked full of fading and faded stars, it’s nice to see the East Great Falls graduating class of 1999 back together. Most of you should expect a lot of laughs in this film and the best thing about American Reunion was definitely the humor. Many pieces were childish and disgusting, but some of those were arguably the funniest parts. If you liked or laughed at any of the previous three films, American Reunion will not disappoint.
