The Hunger Games mania is sweeping the nation. Even Brad Pitt is smitten with star Jennifer Lawrence. Is Bradgelina in troubs? Anyway, I saw this streaming down my Twitter feed this morning and it’s a pretty funny pardody commercial for The Hunger Games Game, set to the tone of an innocent doll spot that you’d see on the Disney channel during an iCarly break, but the rules of this game follow that of the brutal story of the book/film, and it’s a great tonal contrast:

“Slaughter your oppenents. Survive at all costs. And find out who-who-who’s got a CRUSH on you!!!”

It’s pretty damn funny. Check it out after the break.

GRADE: B+

I’m 26. I’m single. At this point in my life I’m not thinking about kids as a short-term possibility (*knock on wood*). But as I’m entering the twilight of my 20’s, it’s definitely something I’m beginning to mull over and how it will factor into my life…eventually. Hundreds, thousands of movies over the years have portrayed or dissected the challenges and joy that having children brings to one’s life – either through raunchy comedy (Knocked Up) or serious drama (Kramer vs. Kramer). But there are rare breeds of films that are able to tap into these cinematic elements in a way that makes you laugh, shed a tear and think about the importance of the people in your life. Friends With Kids is one of those films.

GRADE: B

This will probably be one of the shortest reviews that I’ve ever written, because there’s really not much to be said. Project X is what it is: a party comedy bursting at the seams with profanity, nudity, dick jokes and the ever-cliche’ high school theme of nerds wanting to be cool. The comparisons to Superbad are just, simply for the friendship dynamic of the main characters, but it doesn’t come close to the memorable substance that McLovin’ & Co. provided moviegoers back in 2007. Project X, is however, an entertaining comedy that will make you want to party as soon as the credits roll.

I’ve been watching this over and over the past few days, and I just can’t get enough. There have been hundreds of fan-made trailers for The Dark Knight Rises over the past year or so. Some good, some bad, some “eh.” But none have had such thought-provoking, chill-inducing power as this. It’s a trailer for TDKR, but uses Michael Caine’s voiceover monologue from The Prestige, in which he describes the three parts of a magic trick, but applying the context to Christopher Nolan’s entire Batman trilogy, with Batman Begins as “The Pledge,” The Dark Knight as “The Turn” and The Dark Knight Rises as “The Prestige.” It’s absolutely incredible. Check it out after the break.

Until it was confirmed last year that Bane would be the featured villain in The Dark Knight Rises, director Christopher Nolan emphatically stated that there would be no attempt, in any way, shape or form to bring back the Joker for his final Batman film. Still, people speculated that Nolan could/would/should use CGI, or cut footage of Heath Ledger from TDK, or recast the character (Joseph Gordon-Levitt was mentioned often). It was incessent, endless, blind hope and speculation that grew rather tiresome over many, MANY months. So that’s why this recent Onion article is side-splitting hilarious. It reports that a legion of movie fans are demanding Nolan include Ledger’s Joker in TDKR, and “aren’t interested in what is or isn’t physically possible within the generally accepted bounds of reality.” It’s great, read the full article after the break.

Two reasons that made Inception such a polarizing film is because of a) the complex nature of the plot/narrative that subsequently b) made the ambiguous ending open to interpretation. This lack of concrete resolution didn’t sit well with a select few critics and audience members (most of which are too embarrassed or stubborn to say that they just didn’t “get it.”) I would also say this same resentful attitude towards Christopher Nolan’s intelligent blockbuster applies to Academy voters, who famously snubbed Nolan in the Best Director category two years ago. Which is why I wanted to share this presentation to you. It’s a video of the author of the book Inception and Philosophy (Kyle Johnson), passionately arguing why the film should have won Best Picture to Google employees, spurring some seriously interesting thoughts on the film’s clever and DELIBERATE subtext, within subtext, within subtext. Check it out after the break.

“Zuckerberg deleted Facebook and then killed himself………FOREVER.”

My friend Brenden posted this on my Timeline and it’s good for a chuckle. It’s a parody trailer for a sequel to David Fincher’s Oscar-winning The Social NetworkThe Social Network 2, via the YouTube comedy troupe Nice Nice Productions. The premise centers around Jeremy Hewitt who is dubbed “the most gifted Facebook user in the world.” That is until Mark Zuckerberg deletes the social network from online existence, forcing people to translate their Facebook behavior, offline in real-life. And it’s pretty funny. Check it out after the break.
