Honest Trailer: The Truth About the Overhyped ‘Prometheus’

By

I didn’t see Prometheus until a week after it came out. The buzz surrounding the film was so positive it made me think it couldn’t miss. But after I saw it I thought, “Huh?” The film was underwhelming in so many departments, especially when it came to answering many of the film’s basic questions. Of course, every film doesn’t need to answer everything, but some very basic and crucial areas of Prometheus were left untouched. Simply put, I think Prometheus is one of the most overrated movies I’ve seen in a very long time. I’d put it closer to a mediocre grade, far below it’s ‘Certified Fresh’ 73% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. The video posted after the jump mirrors many of my feelings towards the film, so if you reject my dislike for Prometheus, I recommend you watch it.

Honest Trailers comes from the Screen Junkies YouTube Channel. The faux trailers are comical and are meant to tell the truth about films instead of trying to sell audiences on them. This Honest Trailer isn’t as funny as some of the others done by Screen Junkies, but it definitely raises the most head scratching pieces from Prometheus.

So many questions that don’t connect, or get answered, or make any sense are brought to light here. And this is just the surface of why I wasn’t impressed with Prometheus. I can understand how some people can put these flaws aside and just simply enjoy the immersive Sci-fi flick, but even if you are one of those people, you cannot deny that this film ignores simple logic and fails to answer so many key questions.

Go ahead, make the argument, “Scott just wanted to leave it up to us to ponder and imagine the possibilities.” Sometimes that works, but you can’t leave so many important queries on the table untouched — that’s bad storytelling. Imagining the grey areas can bring satisfaction, but I felt almost nothing but dissatisfaction watching Ridley Scott’s latest. Prometheus feels unfinished. And come on, that surgery scene is absolutely off the wall ridiculous.
