Ahhh, Nicolas Cage. He brings so much happiness to my life. I probably spend at least an hour a week enjoying the constant onslaught of internet memes and YouTube montages chronicling his eccentric career and off-screen life. And so comes the the first trailer for his next wacky action thriller, Stolen, where he has 12 hours to steal $10 million dollars to save his estranged daughter from being killed by his ex-partner whom he previously double-crossed in a heist gone awry. All joking aside, this movie actually looks pretty action-packed, albeit still maintaing the inevitable “Cage clichés” that have become staple elements of his films. I’m not sure what the process is in deciding whether or not to use the “movie preview voice” guy voice-over to explain the plot as the trailer plays out. It has become increasingly rare, as it comes off extremely cheesy and dampens the dramatic impact of a well-cut trailer. And this is no exception. It’s hilarious. One  interesting note to point out, is the unrecognizable Josh Lucas as the film’s villain; who looks like he was stranded in Tijuana on a 6-month herion binge. I give him props for going all out and trying something new, it’s just unintentially funny. The film hits theaters September 14th.
