Killing Them Softly stars Brad Pitt in a role of a sequestered maniac assassin type named Jackie Cogan, which is why the film used to be titled Cogan’s Trade. Despite the name change the film marched on and today we get our first look at the trailer for the next Andrew Dominik product. The last film from Dominik, which he also wrote and directed, starred Pitt as Jesse James in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (whew, that’s a title ain’t it?). Pretty chilling dialogue from Brad Pitt right? Listening to him talk about the pleasure he takes in killing a man, discussing about how people beg and plead for their lives shows off this character’s dark side — really reminded my of the scene in The Dark Knight with The Joker bragging about slowing killing cops and savoring the moments.

The film has plenty of promise aside from the strong cast. The story itself follows a less than friendly protagonist (I think it’s safe to assume that is Pitt’s role) in a unique situation of getting stolen gambling money back. From the preview you can see this film also stars Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, and Richard Jenkins.

Killing Them Softly hits theaters October 19th, 2012.
