IMAX To Show ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ For One Week Only

By

It seems that IMAX has started to take the place of 3D films over the last year. The scale of the screen at real IMAX theaters is always impressive when you sit in front of it. There are many, many films that deserve to be shown on its epic screen — one of those films will be getting this treatment in the very near future.

Lucasfilm and IMAX have announced that Raiders Of The Lost Ark will be playing in IMAX theaters for one week only starting on September 7th. The film will be released just in time for the Indiana Jones Blu-Ray Set release on September 18th. Steven Spielberg talked about putting Indy on the IMAX screen for the first time with The New York Times:

For me, it’s always been the bigger the screen, the better. It’s a complete relief to be able to see a film that many people have just experienced on a palm-sized platform technology, suddenly hurled at that them on an Imax-sized screen.

While Spielberg claims that he won’t be converting any of his other films to IMAX, Jurassic Park will still be making a run in 3D next year. Raiders Of The Lost Ark kicking off the Blu-Ray release with a week of IMAX screenings may be one of the few times that re-releasing a film in a different format is acceptable. I usually don’t like it when films get re-released in 3D or IMAX. It always feels like a cheap attempt to get more money on something that is successful enough already. But I have to admit that watching the first 15 minutes of the 1981 classic would be pretty sweet on an IMAX screen.

Are You Going To Go See Raiders Of The Lost Ark At The IMAX?
