How ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Should Have Ended

By

I’ve posted plenty of these funny animated reels on the MASH before. The guys at How It Should Have Ended, or HISHE, have another funny short poking fun at one of this Summer’s biggest movies, The Dark Knight Rises. The short not only has fun criticizing the film, but also highlights some pretty noticeable flaws in Nolan’s final chapter. I of course still loved the third chapter, but this short by HISHE really encapsulates many moments in the film that had me scratching my head.

This short obviously has spoilers, so beware.

I love how the short criticizes with bits of humor. Some of the gripes are a stretch, but others like ‘all the cops going into the sewers’ is a completely legit beef to have with the film. It is a pretty silly turn in the story. I also love how they make fun of Talia’s death, because Marion Cotillard’s last moments were absolutely awful.

My favorite part in the video is the sit down between Superman and Batman at the end. For those who know HISHE, this combo going back and forth about their heroic exploits is pretty common. The joke, “I’m Batman” is a common punchline in the series (“I walked right into that didn’t I?”). But Superman’s observation was one that really hit me after I saw The Dark Knight Rises for the first time — not one prominent character in Gotham, despite all of them being locked into this massive battle for the city, dies. Not one. It borders on absurdity. I was disappointed when no emotional chord was struck watching one of our favorite characters perish, driving Batman to finish the League of Shadows once and for all.

Once again, the crew at HISHE delivers another critique on a film many of us love with plenty of humor and creativity. If you liked this short, check out the rest of their work. They have an assortment of funny rips ranging from The Hunger Games to Alien.

What Did You Think Of The Short?
