Unique First Poster For Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘The Master’By
Ever since making a name for himself in 1997 with Boogie Nights, Paul Thomas Anderson has been one of the most intriguing filmmakers to date. There Will Be Blood is his most recent and notable piece that earned him a Best Picture Nomination along with Daniel Day Lewis winning for Best Actor at the 2008 Academy Awards. When his next flick The Master comes out, you can expect that he’ll be gunning for some more Oscar nominations. We posted the trailer for the film a few weeks back and it looks just as interesting as any Paul Thomas Anderson film. Now we’re getting a look at the first poster for The Master from the Huffington Post.
Check it out below.
This is as simple and thought provoking as it gets. The half of the title and the cast list on the poster look to be submerged in white wine. The meaning behind this poster is unclear, however I have read Joaquin Phoenix’s character is a drunk. Someone who has never heard of this movie before is going to look at the poster and think “What the hell?” But maybe that was their intention. Paul Thomas Anderson has never been one to join the hive. He does what he thinks is best for his picture and makes it as artful as possible, letting the film speak for itself.
The film is about a man who forms his own religious movement during the 1950′s while taking on a young, but troubled protege. There has been speculation the film is a take on the origins of Scientology, but according The Huffington Post article, Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn’t think so.
I don’t know what you’ve heard and what script you’ve read, trust me, it’s not about Scientology.
I don’t think we are truly going to know what the film is about until it comes out. And that’s the way PTA wants it. There is going to be more to this film than just a man starting a new religion, and that mystery is the best part of films like this.
The Master is scheduled for a October 12th, 2012 release.
