The Minions From ‘Despicable Me’ Are Getting A Movie Of Their OwnBy
So many people have come to adore the Minions since Despicable Me came out in 2010 — I count myself amongst that crowd. The gibberish-talking yellow workers of the infamous villain Gru were the glue that held Despicable Me together. They provided many of the funny moments, and also a few touching ones, to help make the film a huge box office success. With that kind of success comes a sequel, Despicable Me 2, set to drop Summer 2013. Well, word now is the following Summer we will be seeing the Minions on their own, in their own feature film.
The Minions success merchandise-wise is widespread. You can’t go to a fair or theme park without seeing them as prizes for winning while playing the rigged carnival games. Their yellow goggled faces can be found on everything from t-shirts, lunch boxes, toys, and even a 3D ride at Universal Studios. The Minions are a huge hit. In fact, they are so recognizable, Despicable Me 2 didn’t tease audiences with any of the film’s lead characters, the three orphan girls or Gru, but with a chorus of Minions singing a version of Barbara Ann.
Deadline reports the critters will get their own spin-off after they star in the Despicable Me sequel. The film will focus on the Minions interacting with humans in a completely original story, though it is reported that some characters from the Despicable Me films will make their way into the Minion spin-off. The project is just getting underway and is planning on a Summer 2014 release.
