Long ‘Cloud Atlas’ Trailer Delivers A Plethora Of Connecting Stories

By

The Wachowski Brothers have been pretty quiet on the cinema front over the last couple years. Let me be honest, if I were someone who wrote, produced and directed Speed Racer in 2008, I would keep my head down for a while too. But it seems the brothers who brought us The Matrix have been spending quite a bit of time with Tom Tykwer in creating Cloud Atlas, an ambitious looking project for sure. Gaze upon its five minute trailer below.

Here’s the trailer for Cloud Atlas.

After watching the preview, I think you now understand why I called Cloud Atlas ambitious. The movie looks extremely complex with an almost uncountable amount of storylines. But apparently, they are all connected somehow. The film’s format will more than likely follow the book. You follow one story which leads to another, which leads to another. In the middle of the book however, the story flips, and continues in reverse. Each story gets a conclusion as the book ends where it began. Hopefully, we will be able to see that format successfully on screen.

I hate saying the visuals look really good, because that’s usually what people say when they know that the story is gonna suck. I won’t say this movie looks like a slam dunk, but Cloud Atlas has the possibility of being a very memorable journey if done right. The interweaving storylines has to be done perfectly in order for this film to work. And if it doesn’t… oh well,  at least the visuals look really good.

Cloud Atlas stars a massive cast with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant. It will be released in theaters on October 26th, 2012.
