Many of us Dumb and Dumber fans were really excited to hear we would get to spend more time with the original Harry and Lloyd, and not just some prequel bullshit, casting younger, less funny actors to play the roles. Dumb and Dumberer is an awful, awful movie. The original isn’t really a triumph, but it sure is hilarious moronic dumb comedy. Peter Farelly, one of the Farelly Brothers behind the original, confirmed in April both Carrey and Jeff Daniels would be back for another go-round. Now the movie has just taken a nose dive before ever hitting the screen — Carrey is done with the project and the film is still going to be made. Huh?

As people who have been paying attention will know, Carrey was really enthusiastic to reprise his role as the chip-toothed Lloyd. But his enthusiasm has been shot down by New Line Entertainment and Warner Bros. He spoke with ETOnline:

I would have thought ‘Dumb and Dumber To‘ [the sequel's title] was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.

So Carrey doesn’t feel the studio has this project’s back. Reports say he has become frustrated with the lack of energy put towards the project. How they got that from his above quote, I do not know. But Carrey really must have seen or dealt with some serious crap from the studios, because he was gung-ho to do this film in the Spring. It’s sad, because Daniels and him have both come a long way since then, it sure would have been fun to see what the Farelly Brothers could cook up for these nit-wits (plus it’s been awhile since they’ve made anything good).

The thing I really don’t understand is, if the studio isn’t excited for this film, why are they still moving forward with the project minus Carrey, the biggest piece? Something doesn’t add up. Not only is Carrey the most famous of the duo, but who will replace him? I highly doubt any fans, even movie-goers who love comedies, would go out of their way to see this film without Jim Carrey. It’s just like Dumb and Dumber all over. The sequel has no point without both these classic idiots.
