Next Friday, September 23rd, the movie Thunder Soul will be hitting select theaters as a tribute to the funkadelic and legendary Kashmere Stage Band. Jamie Foxx aided as the Executive Producer on the production and my God, does it look like a great film for music enthusiasts. The film will highlight the history of the high school band that made it big in the 1960′s, while bringing viewers to a present day reunion of the Kashmere Stage Band.

The band started in an inner-city Houston school, Kashmere High. The jazz program at the school became exceptional in 1968 at the hands of a new teacher, Conrad “Prof” Johnson. He was an inspiration and mentor for the music students at the time. He arranged and composed some beautiful pieces that competed with contemporary southern funk and jazz bands that were popular at the time. By the time the band ended in 1978, there were eight albums recorded under Johnson’s direction. In 2008, the band reunited to play for 92 year-old Johnson. The documentary goes more in-depth about the experience the former music students had reuniting for their life changing mentor, Conrad Johnson.
