Colin Hanks & Mos Def Will Join Everyone’s Favorite Serial Killer ‘Dexter’

We’ve got some news on the Dexter front; Colin Hanks and Mos Def will be joining the cast for the upcoming sixth season. On first hearing the news I thought, “Hmm alright… I guess I can see this working out.” As the news sank in I started to feel more positive about it. Colin Hanks has some good stuff under his belt — one of my personal favorites The Great Buck Howard (good ups on this recommendation Matt). As for Mos Def, well normally I’d probably have to hate on any rapper/actor joining one of my favorite shows; but I like Mos Def. He’s definitely no Oscar winner or anything, but damn its better than having Tyrese join the cast! Check out more on Dexter as well as a teaser trailer below.

While as of now, the information on the new roles is fairly broad, but we do know a few new characters that we will see in the upcoming season based on some descriptions given by Showtime.

Jamie: Described as an outgoing and fun Latina in her mid-20s, this Florida native relocates to Miami for grad school.

Chicago Mike: New thirty-something African-American homicide detective who possesses a finely turned BS detector. The Windy City native does not play well with Dexter others.

Louis: A buddy of Masuka’s (C.S. Lee) who joins Miami Metro Police as a new lab intern. The role calls for a Caucasian actor in his 30s who is “attractive in his own way.”

Mos Def will play an ex-con who has found religion to wander from his past misdeeds. I could see him doing a pretty good job in this role. It will give him the opportunity to show a wide range of acting chops which he does seem to have, at least in some capacity, Cadillac Records anyone? Based on the description of Louis (Caucasian in his 30s) I guess we could assume Hanks is playing this one. I hope not though. It seems like a weaker role and Hanks could definitely bring more to the table character wise. Rumor on the street is Hanks will possibly be the next hurdle for Dexter. I guess time will tell.

With the lack of a cliffhanger in the season five finale of Dexter, I’m hoping they open season six with a bang. The Showtime hanchos’ have said this season Dexter will be going back to his roots and that there really won’t be one big nemesis who dominates the story for the whole season. What exactly Dexter’s roots entails I can’t say for sure, but I do hope they bring it back around to focus on Dexter as a ballin’ serial killer and not him training next gen models.
