Trailer for Yet Another Wes Craven Slasher-Flick, ‘Scream 4′

By

The cheesy fake blood and cliché slasher storylines of the first three Scream films terrified me in elementary school. Looking back, the series now sits in the comedy genre rather than horror, with an array of other bad ‘90s flicks. On April 15, a fourth Scream is set to hit theaters, hoping to terrify a new generation of 12 year-olds and bring back 10 year-old memories for the rest of us.

Scream 4 takes place 10 years after the final installment of the then-trilogy. Sidney Prescott, who was forced to face her past in order to stop the murders of Woodsboro, is now a successful author of a self-help book. When she returns to the town once plagued by a killer, she revisits old characters from Scream 3, including Jill, Aunt Kate, Sheriff Dewy and Gale; but her return stirs up old history and attracts the attention of a murderer once again.

The new release will bring Neve Campbell into the spotlight again, as she carries on the role of Sidney Prescott. The sheriff’s character will also be played by a returning face. David Arquette, who hasn’t been seen in many big films lately, will once again take on the part of Sheriff Dewy and Courteney Cox will join the reunion as his wife, Gale. Newcomers to the Scream sequence include big names such as Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere.

The release of Scream 4 will most likely result in another memorable addition to the humorous series. The good news is that, while most sequels result in flops, the preceding three were so bad, that a successful movie wouldn’t cut it anyways. Although special effects have improved since the early 2000s, the Scream franchise just wouldn’t be the same if they were actually scary, so let’s hope the slashers continue to spark giggles, rather than nightmares.
