This ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ is No Children’s Tale
ByClassic fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood, isn’t for kids anymore. Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight, is behind a new version of the story, set for release on March 11. This rom-dram looks like it’s turning the children’s bed time story into a nightmare-causing film.
Red Riding Hood takes place in a village haunted by a werewolf that the citizens have kept satisfied for years by offering monthly animal sacrifices. Now, due to a change in the moon, the creature is hungry for humans. The people of the town call Father Solomon, a well known werewolf hunter, to help track down the wolf, but they soon realize the wild animal, human by day, is one of the village members.
Meanwhile, two of the town’s residents have promised their daughter’s hand in marriage to a wealthy Henry. Their daughter, Valarie, is in love with an orphaned woodcutter and wants to avoid her arranged marraige. The two plan to run away together, but as the werewolf begins to hunt, she starts to suspect that someone close to her is the monster.
Hardwicke isn’t the only big name involved in Little Red Riding Hood. Valarie (Red Riding Hood), will be played by Amanda Seyfried, who’s taken on large roles in films such as Mean Girls, Jennifer’s Body and Mama Mia. Gary Oldman will play Father Solomon, who tries to help take on the mysterious werewolf and Valarie’s love interest, Peter, will be done by Shiloh Fernandez. Inception’s Lukas Haas and Julie Christie will also make appearances throughout the thriller.
