First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover, ‘X-Men: First Class’ and John Turturro in ‘Cars 2’
ByAwhile back Barrett dropped word that Leo would be in the upcoming Clint Eastwood flick J. Edgar. The leading man will be playing J. Edgar Hoover himself, the bizare individual who founded the FBI. Today we get our first look at the film that is sure to be a hit with Eastwood and Leo on the same team. Hit the jump for larger pic of Leo, a look at John Turturro’s character in Cars 2, and a look at the X-Men: First Class logo.
First up, we have a portrait picture of a slick-haired Leo doing nothing exciting on set of J. Edgar. The film started filming in L.A. this week, and because this movie is definitely one of my most anticipated of 2012, I had to pass this pic along. The film also stars the absolutely gorgeous Naomi Watts, the steadfast Judi Dench, the skilled Ed Westwick, Josh Lucas as Charles Lindbergh, and Armie Hammer fresh of his success in The Social Network. That is a ridiculously talented ensemble.
As some might know, Hoover was rumored to be intimate with his right hand man Clyde Tolson (Hammer). This will bring one to wonder: “Will Leo and Hammer be kissing on screen?” Hammer has more on that.
It’s not a kissing scene—it’s a ton of kissing scenes… I’m so excited to work with Clint, and from what I hear, he’s not the type of director who has a ton of rehearsals and takes. I think we’re just sort of thrown in there and have to make it happen.
I think it is safe to assume this relationship will be a focal point of the story (unless Hammer is pulling our collective legs). This should definitely prove to be one of the biggest challenges of Leo’s career. He’s never played a homosexual before, or kissed another man to my knowledge — maybe this will get him one of the gold Oscar statues he deserves.
The buzz online is the first trailer for X-Men: First Class is due tomorrow. In light of that news, the web has two new pics; one is of Michael Fassbender as Magneto (via Entertainment Weekly) and the other is the X-Men: First Class poster (via Facebook).
Pretty self explanatory if you ask me. I like how it isn’t anything really flashy — it’s simple — something the other four X-Men movies never had.
Onto more pics of characters from Cars 2. While some readers have pointed out Cars is their least favorite Pixar film (I would also say it is toward the bottom of my list), any new movie from Pixar should have any fan of the animation studio ready for more. While Cars wasn’t my favorite, I think the film captured the culture of Nascar without turning people off who hate the “sport” like myself.
The film also represented the communtiy of the small town, a collection of individuals all banding together to try and revive Radiator Springs. And really, giving a bunch of cars humanity and emotions is no easy task — this is a reason why I think the film was so well done. As I said, with the collection of effin’ amazing Pixar films like: Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Toy Story (1, 2, & 3), UP, and Wall-E, it really is hard to say a film like Cars was not good because it wasn’t epic like many others in the bunch.
Anyway, check out John Turturro’s Italian racing car character Francesco below. This car is said to be Lighting McQueen’s biggest rival in the World Grand Prix. You can also catch a glimpse of his favorite aunt and uncle. Don’t all three cars resemble an Italian persona? Cars 2 hits theaters June 24th, 2011.
Lastly, I wanted to post an awesome pic I came across on Twitter yesterday. Is there one Wolverine, or two Dark Knights?
Are you excited to see Leo kissing Armie Hammer? Is having John Turturro in Cars 2 a huge plus?
