‘The Social Network’ Successors Pursuing ‘Sex on the Moon’

By

The producing team that brought you The Social Network has embarked on its next project with Sony Pictures; Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, and Dana Brunetti are contracted to create Sex on the Moon (via Deadline). The film will be based off the original titled book by Ben Mezrich. In case you were not aware, Ben Mezrich wrote the book The Accidental Billionaires which encouraged The Social Network‘s screenplay adaptation from Aaron Sorkin. This movie may follow a similar path, although a Sex on the Moon screenwriter has not been announced.

So, what does Sex on the Moon have to offer anyways? Hit the jump to view the description Amazon has posted for the upcoming book.

Official synopsis:

“Thad Roberts, a fellow in a prestigious NASA program had an idea—a romantic, albeit crazy, idea. He wanted to give his girlfriend the moon. Literally.

Thad convinced his girlfriend and another female accomplice, both NASA interns, to break into an impregnable laboratory at NASA’s headquarters—past security checkpoints, an electronically locked door with cipher security codes, and camera-lined hallways—and help him steal the most precious objects in the world: the moon rocks.

But what does one do with an item so valuable that it’s illegal even to own? And was Thad Roberts—undeniably gifted, picked for one of the most competitive scientific posts imaginable, a possible astronaut—really what he seemed?”

I must admit, the description sounds intriguing. Moviefone has suggested the film will most likely be an action comedy, which I agree is a safe assumption. Ben Mezrich is well known for writing the books with elements of comedy and wit. For example, his book Bringing Down the House was adapted into the feature film 21, which has many intelligently undermining lines exchanged between characters. The Social Network and 21 obviously had elements of drama to them. However, I do not anticipate much drama being involved with the story titled Sex on the Moon.

At this point, only time will measure the successes of the projectsbook and film. Unfortunately, it may even be up to two years before we hear more about the film side of things.

Sex on the Moon, the book, will be released July 12th if the need to read intrigues you. Also, remember to keep your eyes and ears open for the film Sex on the Moon in the next couple years.

  • Thad is a JOKE

Uhhh… I hate to open up an old article, but I happen to have known Thad Roberts since I was his physics TA almost 15 years ago.  The guy was as mediocre as they come.  Nowadays he is simply idiotic when it comes to science (he's basically gone off the deep end).  In fact he's the department embarrassment and a huge joke around campus.  BTW, that “prestigious competitive science program” is really just an undergrad internship.  Frankly, it's not very competitive at all.
