Trailer Trash MASH: 2011 Summer Blockbuster Edition
ByIt’s easy to say this Trailer Trash Mash has two of the most prominent films we have ever featured in this segment; put them together, and we have our most legendary Trailer Trash Mash yet. Up on the menu are the trailers for Cars 2 and Green Lantern. I featured a teaser for Cars 2 a month back and a sneak peek at Green Lantern earlier this week. Well, the days of waiting for more are over. Hit the jump to check out the first trailers for Cars 2 and Green Lantern.
First up we have one of my most anticipated movies of the 2011 Summer. I personally loved Cars, and I think this installment looks even better. Check it.
It almost seems like co-director John Lasseter blended the first Cars with a James Bond film. The sequel seems to be less about racing and more about espionage and those sorts of story lines. Any movie fan has to consider it a bonus when you can hear the British dialect of the great Michael Caine in an animated film. Along with this trailer, Pixar also released the first official poster (via Yahoo) and synopsis for the film.
Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.
Reading that synopsis I found it a hilarious play on words to use “towing the line in a top-secret spy mission.” Get it, he’s a tow truck? Well, I found it funny. Cars 2 hits theaters June 24th, 2011.
Moving on to Green Lantern.
I am sure many are jacked to see this movie like myself. The concept of the story itself is something that has me foaming at the mouth to see on the big screen; a league of Green Lanterns, set forth with the duty of keeping our universe safe. Almost like a universal police force!
My only concerns come from the campy CGI in the trailer. It doesn’t look top notch like one would expect from a mega blockbuster like Green Lantern. The film is still more than six months away, so I will have to reserve my judgment until I see the final product. But I definitely hope the filmmakers produce a better final cut, because this footage needs some refining to the CGI images. Enough of me going on… check out the first trailer for Green Lantern.
Apple has the trailer in HD here.
Green Lantern hits theaters June 17th, 2011.
