WB’s 2011 First Look: ‘Sherlock Holmes 2,’ ‘The Hangover Part II’ and More

By

We’ve already seen the stills and trailers for Deathly Hallows Part II and Green Lantern, but Warner Bros. has a few other high-profile films coming out in the new year that they’ve recently released brand new production stills for. Some are major franchise sequels, such as Sherlock Holmes 2, The Hangover Part II and Final Destination 5, as well as a couple original comedies. Check out the pics after the break.

We reported a couple weeks back that Paul Giamatti had joined the cast of The Hangover Part II, and Liam Neeson was tapped to replace Mel Gibson’s Thai tattoo artist cameo. Now we have our first look at the wacky foursome in action, presumably at the Bangkok airport, where the sequel is set to take place. I seem to be in the significant minority of people who thought The Hangover was an average film that is completely overrated as a comedy classic, but I’m still looking forward to this. The Hangover Part II is set to hit theaters May 26, 2011. Check out the photo below.

Next up we have our first look at the highly-anticipated Sherlock Holmes 2. We don’t yet know what the story will be other than this time Holmes and Watson must defeat their new adversary, Professor Moriarty. The photo features Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and newcomer Noomi Rapace, making her American big screen debut, after portraying Lisbeth Slander in the Swedish adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I very much enjoyed Sherlock Holmes, and am excited to see what director Guy Ritchie & Co. have in store for us with the sequel. Sherlock Holmes 2 is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2011. Check out the photo below.

Next up is Final Destination 5. What’s there to say? The Grim Reaper is up to his old tricks again, picking on a new group of young idiots, trying to figure out away to stay alive and avoid their super-elaborate, “accidental” deaths. The previous installment in this franchise was titled The Final Destination, allowing logical movie fans to assume it would be the “FINAL” film in the series. But alas, like the Saw films, they’re extremely cheap to make, and bring in a lot of money, so, why not? For those interested, check out the photo below. Final Destination 5 hits theaters August 26, 2011.

Next up we have a couple original comedies on the docket. The first is Something Borrowed, a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson, John Krasinski and Ginnifer Goodwin. The film’s current synopsis calls it “A story about a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiancé.” Uh-oh, trouble in paradise! Seems like a very solid cast and it’s directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door, a classic).  I’m a sucker for rom-coms, so this is on my radar. Check out the photos below. Something Borrowed hits theaters June 10, 2011.

Finally we have Horrible Bosses, featuring one of the best comedy casts I’ve seen in quite sometime, including: Jason Batemen, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Isaiah Mustafa (the Old Spice guy!), Donald Sutherland and Jamie Foxx, who’s character name is, I shit you not, “Motherfucker Jones.” LOL! That cast alone already has me grabbing for my wallet. The film’s crazy plot description goes like this:

Three friends conspire to murder their awful bosses when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness.

Okay, seriously, where’s my wallet? So glad to see Charlie Day, one of the funniest comedic actors around in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, getting mainstream roles like this. Can’t wait! Horrible Bosses hits theaters July 29, 2011. Check out the photo below.
