Release Date Announced for ‘Super 8’

By

The teaser for Super 8 had me at “hello.” Aside from the cheesy Jerry Maguire movie reference, news just broke the J.J. Abrams written and directed film Super 8 now officially has a release date. I’m going to do this to you, but you have to hit the jump to get the date for the Steven Spielberg produced project.

Super 8 will hit theaters June 10th, 2011, which is the same release date as the Fast and the Furious sequel Fast Five and Something Borrowed which stars John Krasinski and Kate Hudson. Super 8 is set in 1979 and deals with the “supernatural.” The film reportedly just wrapped a chunk of the shoot in West Virginia; good thing considering Super 8 will be in theaters this upcoming summer.

The film starring Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning is titled Super 8 because a group of children catch this “supernatural” phenomenon escaping from a train car on their Super 8 cameras. Don’t quote me on that synopsis because much of the plot has been kept in the dark, but that is the gist of it. Just get pumped, because it looks and sounds awesome.

Super 8 has a viral campaign on the internet at a website called TheScariestThingIEverSaw.com. I seriously have no idea what is going on at this site whatsoever, but you can dive in a little deeper by searching for more information online because other nerds have already “figured” it out. Super 8 will not be released in 3D and should be a gem coming from the great theatrical minds of Abrams/Spielberg. The summer cannot get here soon enough.

What Do You Think? Discuss.
