Mission: Impossible 4 Gets Titled ‘Ghost Protocol’

By

Mission: Impossible 4 now has an official title. Believe it or not, it is not just a “4″ at the end of the title like the first three installments. Hot off the press is the official title for the film – Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. This news is far from the most interesting title to be released this week. Yesterday, Barrett posted the highly (and I mean highly) anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight will be titled The Dark Knight Rises. Though the Mission: Impossible title unveil is dwarfed by The Dark Knight Rises, in an effort to keep up with Mission: Impossible news I thought I would pass this important little nugget along.

The news broke at a panel press conference in Dubai that featured director Brad Bird, stars of the film Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton, producer Bryan Burk, and some guy named Tom Cruise. The film has already wrapped shooting in Prague (you can see set photos here) and is setting up to shoot extensively in the beautiful and fairly new infrastructure of Dubai. Director Brad Bird commented:

We love the fact that it’s a big, new city, that it hasn’t been photographed very much … It’s almost like sets that you could never afford.

In the press conference Cruise confirmed a lot of filming will take place around the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa.

I’ll be spending many days, many hours on the side of this building, I can’t give you details, but I will be up there.

Like my feelings about The Dark Knight Rises, I’m unsure about how much I like the name Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; but I always reserve judgment until I know what the title means in relation to the movie itself. Aside from this “so-so” title, the lead up to the production itself has been stellar (see the additions of Jeremy Renner and Brad Bird). I am very excited to see the wheels of this film now in motion. As more news comes out about the progressing production of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the Movie Mash will have it.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol hits theaters December 16th, 2011.

I wasn't real excited to hear that they were making a new Mission Impossible, but it does have Brad Baird directing, which does make me want to see it. Sort of an odd choice at first thinking, but The Incredibles was an action movie for the most part.
