Basics of ‘The Dark of the Moon’ Plot Revealed

A few weeks back, Transformers fans were finally let in on the title for the third installment (The Dark of the Moon). Now a very basic and not revealing plot synopsis has been exposed via an Amazon product description for the official “Transformers 3 Push-Pops Board Book.” I am guessing that mentioned “Push-Pops Board Book” is some cheap Transformers merchandise marketed to kids. Anyway, the synopsis for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon can be seen after the jump.

The plot details go something like this:

“The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.”

Wow, the Autobots are facing off against the Deceptions? No way! I thought the Autobots were taking their talents to South Beach to play basketball for the Miami Heat. Sorry I built that up, because I am sure that was a pretty big let down for you too. Most of that description above could just be assumed about The Dark of the Moon. When I saw the initial article on Slashfilm, I was pumped, but then I read the details and was let down similar to seeing The Last Airbender this summer.

Ok, there were some solid pieces of news in that synopsis. Learning the Russians and United States are in a space race was interesting, but wasn’t that 40 years ago? We went to space and landed on the moon to beat the Russians initially, so now we are racing the “Commies” back to space? Hmm, I guess I’m intrigued. The biggest piece of news comes from the addition of a new adversary Shockwave to the narrative. We will have to wait and see how that plays out for the Decepticons.

Transformers 3: The Dark of the Moon is set to hit theaters July 1, 2011.
