‘Sherlock Holmes’ Screenwriter to Work on Jack Ryan Reboot Script Starring Chris Pine
ByFriggin’ finally! Heat Vision is reporting (via Collider) that Sherlock Holmes scribe Anthony Peckham, has signed on to “work” on the script for the long-delayed Jack Ryan reboot, tentatively titled Moscow. For the uninitiated, Jack Ryan is the staple character featured in some of Tom Clancy’s most famous novels that were then adapted into feature films. Jack Ryan has gotten the James Bond/Batman treatment over the years, being portrayed by several different leading men, including: Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for the Red October, Harrison Ford twice in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and most recently Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears. Chris Pine is currently attached to take over from here.
Looking at Peckham’s previous credit, he appears to be well-suited to take over the script for a franchise like this; he’ll just need to step up his CIA conspiracy/international intrigue game. Along with Holmes, he’s written the screenplays for Clint Eastwood’s Invictus from last year, and the 2001 Michael Douglas thriller, Don’t Say a Word. I’m just glad that they finally figured this out because it’s been on the discussion table for almost a couple years now. I love The Hunt for the Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and own all three. Sum of All Fears was a solid effort, but didn’t wow me enough to warrant a DVD purchase.
Paramount is hoping to get production rolling on Moscow by the end of this year or the beginning of 2011. Stay tuned for more updates.
