‘No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan’…Seriously Though, WTF Happened?

No, that’s not M. Night Shyamalan. It is an actor playing M. Night Shyamalan in this awesome, hilarious and timely College Humor spoof video, No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan. We’ve all scratched and shook our heads in bewilderment as a once promising young filmmaker, responsible for bringing us brilliant, critically-acclaimed thrillers like The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, has taken four consecutive dumps on the silver screen. Lets not beat around the bush, shall we? The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening and The Last Airbender are all awful movies. It’s pretty universally agreed upon. And a huge reason for this, is Shyamalan’s incessant need to incorporate some sort of mind-blowing twist at the end of his movies. Which works for some, but obviously not for others.

This video is great because it of it’s timeliness. I’m sure some of you have either read about or have seen the audience backlash that is currently happening with his new movie, Devil. M. Night came up with the concept and wrote the story for the film, which gives him enough creative credit for the studio to stamp “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” at the beginning of the trailer. Usually showcasing a filmmaker’s brand name is supposed to be a good thing, because it reassures the audience that “this is gonna be good.” But because of M. Night’s awful track record over the past six years, the mere sight of M. Night’s name now makes audiences groan with contempt or laugh with embarrassment.

It’s a true shame, too, becuase it’s not like M. Night has always sucked. As I previously stated, he has shown flashes of brilliance with The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable; and even Signs was a solid effort. He’s just had some sort of career meltdown and we’ve got front row tickets to the show. I think maybe he needs to take a couple years off to center his Chi. M. Night: go to South America, live with some aboriginal tribes and get your head right, or start filling out applications to Jamba Juice. Check out the video below.
