Inception Behind-The-Scenes Featurette

By

With the release date for Inception rapidly approaching, Warner Bros. has begun to hit the promotional trail hard, specifically with a bombardment of thrilling new TV spots airing during the NBA playoffs. Today, a new behind-the-scenes featurette debuted on Yahoo!, that has also been playing during the “First Look” segment at AMC theaters before the previews. The video features interviews with both writer/director Christopher Nolan and star Leonardo DiCaprio talking about the making of the film.

While I thought this to be impossible, this behind-the-scenes sneak peek has thoroughly increased my excitement for this movie, by seeing how the magic happens behind the camera. Nolan discusses how, when you’re dealing with the concept of the human mind and the crazy stuff it can conceive of, you definitely want to see it on “a grand scale.” Some of you may know that Nolan has had the idea for Inception in his mind for years, and originally wrote it as a small-budget heist movie. But then decided to put in on the shelf when he realized that when you’re delving into dreams, you need to have a massive budget to pull off the insane world that our dreams can create. So after The Dark Knight made Warner Bros. over $1 billion, it was the perfect opportunity for him to ask them for $170 million dollars to make his “dream” project a reality.

DiCaprio talks about the insane sets and spectacles that blew the cast away while on set, stating that they were all in a “constant state of surprise.” And the coolest thing to hear Nolan talk about, what makes him my favorite director, is his die-hard devotion to “photographing in real places.” He doesn’t take short-cuts by using a crapload of CGI (*achem* George Lucas). He wants to take his audience into the most real and authentic world he can create, generating the highest-quality of a movie-going experience. Inception opens worldwide July 16th. I can honestly say I did not think I could get any more pumped for this movie, but after watching this I can no longer say that. Wow, listening to their thoughts really brings the large scale to life. 6 countries! Seeing the rolling hallway from outside the scene was pretty awesome too!
