Anchorman Sequel Ready To Go, Waiting for Studio Green-Light

Last May we reported Will Ferrel discussing the possible Anchorman sequel, where he stated that “everyone is meeting next week to discuss it.” Since then, there hasn’t been any significant developments. Now we have word that the cast (Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Christian Applegate, Steve Carell, David Koechner) and co-writer/director Adam McKay, are all on board, but are waiting for the approval from Paramount before proceeding.

McKay spoke with MTV today, where the writer/director elaborated on exactly where they are with Anchorman 2:

“It’s a tricky movie because everyone went and did really well after it, so everyone’s prices went up and everyone’s time got a little more valuable. But at the same time, graciously, Steve and Paul and everyone agreed to cut their price to come and do [the sequel], which you don’t see very often in Hollywood — and cut their price substantially. But even with that, it’s just a budgetary thing with Paramount in terms of how much they’ll give us to make it.

We had an idea and we contacted Steve and Paul and [David] Koechner and Christina [Applegate] and checked in with everyone and they were all game for it,” McKay said. “The stage we’re at now is talking to Paramount and trying to get the money to do it.”

That’s really awesome to see big-time actors who have set salaries worth millions of dollars take a huge pay cut to make the movie they want to make. I love seeing that. MTV said if/when the sequel gets the green-light, the plan is to polish off a script this fall and then be ready to roll cameras by February, 2011. McKay also said that the sequel would take place several years later in the 80s.

Dear God: PLEASE make this happen!
