Twilight’s Taylor Lautner Set To Star In “Bourne-Style Action Film”
ByNow I know what you’re thinking. “Whaaaat?” I realize that a lot of Movie Mash readers are burned out on the Twilight franchise and all the teeny-bopping baggage that comes with it. While I tend to agree with that sentiment, I’m actually interested in this. Teen heart-throb/apparent newbie body-builder Taylor Lautner, is branching out from being a hunky Werewolf to star in Abduction; a project that is being tagged as a “Bourne-style action film.”
Over the past week a bidding war has been going on among several studios over the production and distribution rights to Abduction, with Lionsgate emerging as the winner today. The studio bought the screenplay from writer Shawn Christensen for a reported amount of nearly $1 million, which is a significant chunk of change in this economic climate in Hollywood.
Abduction follows a teenager named Nathan “who has long felt disconnected from his parents, and figures out why. That unleashes a chain of violent events.”After discovering his own baby picture on a missing persons website, he realizes a deep dark secret — his parents kidnapped him as a child and raised him as their own. This realization unlocks a huge conspiracy, and Nathan and his girlfriend must go on the run. Slashfilm says they’ve heard it also being described as being “Bourne meets Hitchcock for the Distrubia crowd.”
I think the idea for the film sounds pretty intriguing. I’m just curious on how “violent” they can make it since A) Lautner just turned 18 like a week ago, so it’ll be hard to take his revenge quest seriously, even though he’s jacked; and B) The “Disturbia crowd” is mostly comprised of young-ins, so I don’t know how the 12 year-old girls will react to a censored version of Taken/Edge of Darkness. It’ll be easier to have a solid impression once a director and more cast members are attached.
What Do You Think? Discuss.
