First Glance: New Pics of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

money never sleeps

We reported way back in April on the announcement and casting of Oliver Stone’s Wall Street sequel, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. USA Today has now released the first hi-res still images of the film, which is currently in post-production. The sequel takes place 20 years after the original with Michael Douglas returning to his iconic role as the then villainous Gordon Gekko, who famously coined the phrase, “Greed is good.” Stone, who wrote and directed the original, passed on the script for WS2 several times, but inevitably changed his mind after the economic collapse of 2008. “I guess the crash, which happened in the meantime, made it more interesting,” Stone said.

Starring along Douglas is Shia LaBeouf as a hot-shot/up-and-coming broker who obviously has a lot to learn. The adorable and brilliant Carey Mulligan, fresh off her Golden Globe nom and inevitable Oscar nom, will play Shia’s love interest. Javier Bardem was originally chosen by Stone to play the villain, but due to scheduling conflicts was replaced by his No Country co-star Josh Brolin; which is totally fine by me. Brolin’s character is being described as a “new breed of ruthless investor/banking kingpin.” Check out these new photos from Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

These are the first images that we’ve see of WS2 and the film is set to be released in just a couple months on April 23. Bad time management? So expect at least one trailer to be released and a marketing push by 20th Century Fox to begin very soon.

Very excited but also anxious about the storyline…all too often Hollywood wants to jump on the latest catastrophe…I.E doomsday movies, vampire flicks, comic book adaptations, global warming etc… but most of the time these films fall flat because of the long production times and short attention span of the public…

NOW in regards to W.S-MNS…I find it quite hard that Oliver Stone will be able to dilute the Sub-Prime crisis and or the Credit Crisis into terms that will draw movie-goers… Although i'll need a new pair of pants after watching Boiler Room, Wall Street or Rogue Trader…It may be over the non business oriented fan's head. I hope he gets the point across without making blanket statements such as “Down with Capitalism”, etc… Any who, Rosie will def be seeing this and can't wait to see what it's NPV is going to be!
