Trailer Trash MASH, “Day” Edition: Valentine’s Day Trailer Apparently Features Every Actor Alive & Cruise/Diaz Turn Up the Action in Knight and Day

We’ve been talking a lot about fanboy blockbusters recently (i.e. Avatar and Inception). So I thought it would be a nice change of pace to bring you guys the first official trailer of a heart-warming romantic comedy. The film is Valentine’s Day, and as the title of this post alludes to, seriously seems to feature every actor alive. Lets go down the cast list now, via the heart image above from right to left: Anne Hathaway, Patrick Dempsey, Julia Roberts, George Lopez, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Queen Latifah and Emma Roberts. (Deep, gasping breaths) Sorry about that, I got a little winded there. Yeah, that is seriously the cast. No joke.

The trailer, along with the cast, gives off a very He’s Just Not That Into vibe. The available synopsis, via IMDB, goes something like this: Intertwining couples and singles in Los Angeles break-up and make-up based on the pressures and expectations of Valentine’s Day. The trailer is not epic or anything. It pretty much confirms the synopsis you’ve just read. I’m just curious how this film was actually made. The cast’s salaries combined has to be equal to or greater than the Yankees pay- roll, right? Oh well, Valentine’s Day, of course, opens everywhere February 12th. Check out the trailer below.

Next up we have Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz teaming up for their upcoming action/rom-com Knight and Day. I reported on their casting in this film way back in March, when little was known about the project. Then, the title of the film was rumored to be either “Witchita” or “Trouble Man” and that is was going to be a somewhat standard romantic comedy. I knew that there had to be a lot more to it because it’s being directed by James Mangold (Walk The Line, 3:10 To Yuma).

Yesterday the trailer was released online and Knight and Day is not AT ALL what I was expecting. The trailer features little romance, some comedy and A LOT of car chases, gun fights and various other action. While the trailer looks decent, I can’t help but roll my eyes at 48 year-old Cruise and 38 year-old Diaz running around like they are in their 20s, spouting out some very unimpressive and cheesy, “seen it before” dialogue.

The film centers on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a “glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust.” The film also features Maggie Grace, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Dano and Viola Davis; fresh off her Oscar nomination for Doubt. Definitely will not be paying money to see this in theaters, but it might be a nice little weekday Netflix next year. Knight and Day opens on July 2. Check out the trailer below.

Valentine's Day thankfully has a big enough cast where we probably won't have to see too much of Taylor Launtner…

Love the quote from the reporter, “There you have it, young love, full of hope, full of promise…ignorant of reality.” Hilarious!

Cruise, Diaz…no. Agreed on the netfilx, no way this movie is worth the price of theater admission. The film's biggest star has gotta be Dano.

Since “Valentine's Day” has every actor you can think of…that must be the only movie being made at that time?

LOL! So stoked for Valentine's day. As those who know me well can attest, Rom Coms are my favorite genre. I'm a hopeless romantic what can I say? But I see something in this story. I absolutely despise Valentine's day because of it's Hallmarked-ness and for the unnecessary pressure this one day puts on both single people and couples. So I'm interested to see all the characters portrayals of the many facets of this absolutely dreadful, yet unavoidable holiday!
