Tarantino’s ‘Basterds Prequel’ Put on the Back-Burner, For Now
By
Way back in May as Inglourious Basterds was premiering at Cannes Film Festival receiving mixed reviews, writer/director Quentin Tarantino was very forthcoming on the abundance of original source material that he had conjured up for a possible Basterds franchise; telling the New York Times:
“…Not to mention a shelved subplot about African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines. I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie’s a smash.”
Unfortunately for Basterds fans aching for some more brutal WWII action, you’re probably going to have to wait a while longer as recent reports are saying that he is going to do a “smaller, less epic project than Basterds” first, which is also “in an entirely different genre.” Hmmm. Looks like Mr. Tarantino is looking to spread his creative wings before returning to his blockbuster baby. I for one applaud him and other directors like him (Christopher Nolan) who have the power and luxury to do what they want, because they know studios are going to bend to their wills for giving them hits. Lets maybe hope for a badass western possibly? Or maybe sci-fi? Or how about Tarantino taking on a comic-book series? Whooaa. There’s a lot of sweet possibilities.
