Coming Soon: A Movie Preview

By Matthew Deery

Salt_Kickass_Clash of the Titans

One of my favorite websites Traileraddict.com, is full of great new trailers for movies coming out in the coming months. I have complied a list of the movies I am anticipating the most, along with their respective trailers for you to check out. Keep your eyes peeled for when these movies hit theaters because I am a firm believer that they are definitely, must-sees.

Enjoy!

Salt

This movie stars Angelina Jolie as a double-agent with allegiance to either the Russian or American government. Which one, we will not know until the end credits roll. This movie has Angelina reprising her usual unstoppable force role (Wanted, Mr.& Mrs. Smith, Tomb Raider) in Salt, but this time with a conspiracy twist. The film is written by Brian Helgeland and Kurt Wimmer. The two have such notable screenplays between them like: Man on Fire, Mystic River, Equilibrium and The Recruit . Those are some pretty solid scripts and some of those are towards the top of the list of my favorite movies.

The role of the title character Salt was originally offered to Tom Cruise, but the screenwriters reworked the script so Jolie could play the role once Cruise backed out. Angelina has proved she can dominate the assassin-type role before and I am sure this movie will be no different. The film also co stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and the dynamite Liev Schreiber. Check out the trailer, it looks enticing. Salt is slated to drop mid summer of 2010.

The Slammin’ Solomon

This is a comedy brought to by the hilarious Broken Lizard comedy troupe of Beerfest and Super Troopers (an announcement for Super Troopers 2 has just been made, FYI). Along with the Broken Lizard guys, some of my favorite TV stars Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother (Robyn) and Sendhil Ramamurthy from Heroes (Mohinder), also star in the comedy. This movie looks pretty funny, but a viewing of the whole movie will determine if it is actually good. I always love movies about the workplace, and this one looks like a riot. This movie drops early December 2009.

Kick-Ass

This film puts a satirical twist on the superhero genre. The story is adapted from small comic-book series also titled Kick-Ass, which was written by Mark Millar. He created the comic-book series Wanted which was also turned into a Hollywood blockbuster starring the previously mentioned Angelina Jolie. If you have not seen Wanted definitely check it out.

This movie looks like a lot of fun with plenty of action as well. Reactions from their Comic-Con panel this past July suggests that Director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust), has made Kick-Ass extremely violent and bloddy; which is awesome. The film stars Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin’) and an up and coming star in Chloe Moretz (500 Days of Summer). The downfall of this project could be the casting of Nic Cage, but I can’t hate on him until I see it. This film drops in April 2010.

Extraordinary Measures

This film stars Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell, and Harrison Ford. The film is a powerful tale of a father and mother trying to save their dying children. Harrison Ford plays a man on the forefront of a scientific discovery that could save the couple’s children. The film’s script is based off the book written by Geeta Anand. I am sure Ford and Russell turn in top notch performances. Fraser is always hit or miss with his acting, but he has been pretty good lately. This film drops mid January 2010.

Clash of the Titans

This is a remake of the 1981 film with the same title. Clash of the Titans is loosely based on the Greek Mythology of Perseus. I personally love Greek Mythology so this film is toward the top of my must see list of 2010. Perseus is played by Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) and also features Hollywood titans (pun intended) Ralph Fiennes and Liam Nesson. The female lead in this project is the stunning Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace). I couldn’t miss this movie solely for the fact she is part of the cast. The trailer does not look great because it shows nothing but action sequences and no story elements. Thankfully this is just a teaser. This film is due to drop in March 2010.

Green Zone

This film looks almost exactly like all the Bourne movies as it stars Matt Damon as the lead character and also features the director of the second and third Bourne movies Paul Greengrass. It is not another Bourne movie (although a 4th is coming in 2010 or 2011 starring Damon and directed by Greengrass).

Green Zone is written by Brian Helgeland who was also mentioned earlier for Salt. This film has Damon looking for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq through his own means. The trailer looks unreal coupled with the fact all the featured players on this project are excellent components to quality cinema. This film is set to be released in March 2010.

Leap Year

Now a little something for the ladies. This looks like the typical chick flick, but I absolutely adore Amy Adams and also think Matthew Goode (The Lookout, Watchmen) is a stud. The film looks so cute I just can’t wait to go see it with all my guy friends, though I am sure none will go with me. Even though almost all chick flicks follow the same formula, it will be interesting to see how this film gets to the most likely predictable conclusion. Not only is Amy Adams gorgeous, but she has real talent as an actress. I cannot wait to see her in this role. Leap Year drops in early January 2010.

Well said Moosh. But just to let you know, I wrote this article, not Brabs. But if you want to see Leap Year with me I'd love to. Especially if you really love Rom-coms and red heads? This is a can't miss. I love Amy Adams so I would go alone too...haha.

Agreed Sam Worthington has exploded. But like you and I agree, heavy metal in trailers is a little cliche...but lets wait for a real trailer. I just saw a behind the scenes for how they made Avatar...it is so unreal. Cameron is a serious movie genius.

Clash of the Titans: Looks visually stunning, has the action. Sam Worthington is bad-ass. Could be coolio. The Green Zone: Saw trailers for this during Men with Goats. Bad-ass What am I missing. Oh yeah! The one that will probs be my favorite of the group. LEAP YEAR! And it's a rom-com? Weird! For those who don't know, Rom-coms are my absolute mash! Brabs how can you say we wouldn't see this with you?! Well I can't speak for everyone, but I'll go by myself if I have to! Love the red heads. My only complaint is that I'm tired of U.K. guys stealing our women. Sad...

Salt: Not a fan of Jolie but the action and suspence are there and Schreiber is the man so count me in. The Slammin Solomon: I was just thinkin the other day when Beerfest was on, when is the next Broken Lizard flick coming out! Boom. Looks like there gonna do it again. Super Bad and Beerfest rank as some of my fav. comedies. Hell I even enjoyed Club Dread. Can't wait for the guys to do it again! Kick-Ass: SO FUCKIN STOKED! Has a kind of All-Stars look to it except way grittier. Great opening suicide scene! Extraordinary Measures: Love the cast (Keri Russell is defs a star crush). And I got chills half way through the trailer.

I'm most excited for Kick-Ass. Matthew Vaughn is a very talented director and it's supposed to be ULTRA-violent. Salt looks decent. Jolie kicking ass and taking names as usual, not sure if I'm gonna pay money to see it in theaters though. Clash of the Titans looks really epic. Not a fan of the heavy metal music in the trailer though. And boy has Sam Worthington officially EXPLODED on the Hollywood scene. Watch out leading men.
