UPDATE: Jaw-Dropping 2nd Trailer For District 9

district 9

You’ve undoubtedly read my lengthy post from yesterday, chronicling and analyzing the amazing viral marketing campaign for Sony Pictures’ District 9. If that didn’t get you even somewhat excited to see this movie, then you are either a robot, dead or have no soul. The second trailer for D9 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on Friday in front of Bruno, but as studios usually due, Sony released the second trailer for District 9 online today. And it…is…AWESOME! I thought that there is no way I could get any more excited for this movie, but after watching this mind-blowingly intense second trailer, I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do until the film opens August 14.

In this second trailer, we get a lot of new footage, leading to a lot of new answers, as well as a lot of new questions. The aliens have been on Earth for 28 years. MNU has agents that they send into District 9 to investigate disturbances by the aliens. The dangerous biotechnology that they have is somewhat revealed in the form of a spray canister, which a human character is exposed to, but the ultimate side-effects are vague at best. They also have a Ellen Ripley-esque, man-operated robotic machine that can do some crazy shit. There also seems to be A LOT  more action in this film than previously thought; gun fights, explosions, etc. AND, perhaps most important because it signals the potential brutal nature of this film, it is rated-R for “bloody violence and pervasive language.” How badass is that? I’ll reiterate and up the ante from my previous statement; If this second trailer doesn’t get you out-of-your-mind excited to see this movie, then you are either a robot, dead or have no soul. Or poss non-human? LEVEL 5 ALERT!!! I’m calling it, D9 will be the surprise summer blockbuster smash of the summer. Check this out.

(p.s. either bump your speakers or put on your headphones and blast the volume for best effect)

The Campaign Adverts for this are so well done(Love the MNU website). This has such a great look. I can't wait for it. The aliens are so cool looking. I really hope the movie execs don't make the mistake of puting an "Independence Day" ending on this. Otherwise, I can't wait.
